****tails

I was wondering when in your journeys did you have your first ****tail? I am 7 months out. I am not a big drinker but I have a birthday, a few other social events coming up. I have on occasion enjoyed a few drinks.

I appreciate any feedback.

I will respond as before surgery I rarely drank. After my RNY not touch even a sip of alcohol for the first 9 or 10 months. Even the. Just a few sips. When I went to Vegas 11 months post op I had half of a drink with no issues. So little and taken into account with my calories and so forth and so did not have issues.

Sherrie

I may have had a few sips at some point, but can't really remember.

This weekend, at 9 months out, I had my first real drinking adventure. I was "going" to have one. But then decided one felt, great and two must feel even better. Let's just say I ended up with 4 very large mixed drinks and champagne thrown in there some where over a short period of time, and it was...interesting. I'm pretty sure I managed to entertain an entire cruise ship.

I do not plan on doing it again anytime soon. I don't really like alcohol that much (except the part where it makes you feel great) and it's not worth the calorie content or the morning after guilt (or the morning after hang over - try doing boot camp after that kind of night!).  I can clearly see how alcohol becomes a transfer addiction after one night of drinking - it feels great, but its only temporary.

If you are good at moderation, more power to you! If you are anything like me and there's no such thing as ONE drink (or hell, two), don't go there. Not worth it.

My doc cleared me to drink at about 2 months. However, I didn't have a drin****il about 4-5 months. It was a screwdriver. A few weeks later, I had margarita on the rocks. Both went to my head quickly. Now I have one glass of wine about 2-3 times per month. The wine doesn't go to my head. So, I'm sticking with wine. You are fine to have a drink, but I would caution you to stick with one and drink it slowly.

I was a regular (weekly) drinker of wine or margaritas as a pre op. Not allot but regularly with friends.
Since surgery I've had 2 glasses of wine on Christmas 2010 (8 months post op) and again 2 glasses Christmas 2011.  Family time-you know. Really it doesn't even taste that good and I still don't get a buzz---never did on just a few glasses.

Might have a glass or 2 on upcoming vacation---but it really screws with my calories when those vacation temptations are already there.  Suggestion if it makes you uncomfortable---have a lemonade or crystal lite in a pretty glass with a ****tail garnish in it. No one will know. If you plan to drink just see where it will fit in your calories.
