I was just wondering if my joint pain has alot to do with my weight lose.  I lost 163 pounds all together.  I am at 232 pounds now .  So I still have a lot to lose.  But, I seem to losing the weight in my joints and hands, feet , ankles ,shoulders and neck and face first.  Actually my hands are skin and bones.  Which was kind of nice at first because for the first time.  I could where braclets.  My rings I had to give away to my  sister.  They no long fit.  They would fall off.  This life month my hands have really been hurting.  I am a person hates to take medication. So I just lived with it.  I was just wondering if any of you experience permant joint pain after surgery and weight lose.  I been taking my vitamins reguarlly.  I actually been feeling really good.  Except for the pain in my bones of my hands.  It starting to get bad enough to worry me.

I never heard of such a thing. Do some research; ask a doctor. I wouldn't assume that it is due to the weightloss. I could simply be arthritis.

You've done great on your WL!!!

But I would expect the opposite regarding your joint pain. Seems like it should be getting better with WL. Maybe your just using them more with increased activity?   I would call your PCP or someone to discuss. Particularly since it's worrying you!

Let us know!!

Honestly, check with a doctor. I have a lot of pain in my knees and hips lately, but my doctors keep telling me that its because im losing weight, body structure is changing, etc blah blah blah. I have no idea if its true and/or related, but other people have mentioned similar explanations from their doctors.

To some extent its possibly related - as we lose a lot of weight, the fat that was supporting our bones, muscles and tendons disappears and our bodies have to adjust so it makes sense. But, the safest bet is to set a doc and get a set of x rays to rule out anything like arthritis espeically bc its in your hands.

RNY on 06/16/11 with
Since I had arthritis before surgery, I can't directly answer your question because I've suffered from chronic pain for years.

I do want to point out that a low vitamin D can definitely cause you to have joint/bone aches and pains. Have you been tested for low vit D during your routine labs? Before surgery mine was an 11, which is scraping the bottom of the barrel. If it is low, dry Vit D capsules are available very inexpensively. You don't want the ones the docs prescribe because if you had RNY, they won't work because they are suspended in oil and they are very expensive, as well.

Congrats on the weight loss!
