Waiting...Waiting...and waiting
So it seems like ive been waiting forever to hear back from the insurance company. My paperwork was submitted on Feb. 24th and it is just now showing up online. It says "awaiting clinical information". I have called BCBS everyday and they assure me that so far nothing is missing and that everything is just being reviewed. when my sister had hers they actually told her who this person reviewing her case was and she was allowed contact with that person. They keep telling me that no one name is attached to my case just the predetermination department. Maybe im messing up calling everyday? My original plan of attack was to bug the **** out of them till they told me something either way but thats not working too well. It kinda makes me wonder if they have asked my surgeon for documents and they havent submitted them. I asked BCBS that and they assured me there wasnt anything missing but i have my doubts. im not 100% confident of my surgeons office or staff. Should I call my surgeons office? Ugh...:(
It will seem like forever until you get your approval---that's for sure.
I wouldn't "over call" the insurance company but I'd be watching on line for any change in status. Maybe call 1x per week if it takes that much more time. If you see a change in status, then call and find out what they need.
No excuse but the ins companies have probably been buried in folks finishing up 2011---to close their books and prep for taxes.
Take a deep breath--it will happen. Good luck.

Christi,
I am sure they are used to folks calling a lot, but you may want to give THEM some slack, scale back to once a week ;)
Many of us were chomping at the bit - in my case, I started in February of 2010, didn't get surgery until November of 2010. It takes as long as it takes. We didn't gain our weight overnight, and this is a LIFE CHANGE, so look at the future. It will happen, soon, don't get yourself all worked up.
Instead... Start working on eating the way you will be AFTER surgery (I did a modified liquid diet over a year - 1200 calories). Start getting more active, if you can. When I started swimming, I could only swim 3 times a week, for a half hour. Now, I swim 5 days a week for two hours a day. It took two years of swimming to build my stamina - this was before I got my surgery.
Hang in there Christi, you WILL get your date, just try to not get too frustrated. Lots of us know how you feel, so don't feel alone!!!

Thanks, guys! Its so horrible. Im pretty sure I could navigate the BCBS website in my sleep. I knew today after calling my surgeons office that im taking a couple of days off. When I called I said why I was calling but never stated my name and they said "Oh is this Miss Suits?" At that point i busted out laughing and realized I had become one of the crazy and annoying patients that my mom (she is an office manager at a doctors office) gripes about everyday. Im pretty sure I will keep stalking my website and checking in there but im gonna limit my phone calls to once a week.

Sometimes it just takes them a little time. My husband's was submitted and we had the approval letter in 9 days, mine took 3 weeks. I was even told by the insurance company I was approved and it took 2 weeks from then to just get the letter. They couldn't figure out how to just fax the letter to my doc either. I had to wait til the doctor had a letter in hand before he would schedule my surgery. Of course it came on a friday when they weren't in the office and I had to wait 3 more days to schedule it! LOL, You're just excited, I know the feeling, but honey, as soon as you get that date, it's all a blur from there. I know everyone says it happens before you know it and it's true, it doesn't seem that way now though.
I finally had to take the approach that I had to sit back and let it happen because that's how God wants it. There is a reason :) Good luck, deep breaths!
