Pre-Op Appts DONE...next step Surgery!
RNY on 03/15/12
Friday was my day for all of my pre-op appointments. I started the morning off with a visit to my PCP to tell him I was having RNY. He was absolutely thrilled for me. He was even more thrilled when I told him who my surgeon would be. Having his support means a lot to me. He's been my doctor for years and is even my husband and daughter's doctor too.
After the PCP appointment, I had my pre-op at the surgeon's office. I have all the things I need for my liquid diet as well as my post op vitamins/supplements.
Next it was on to the hospital for my pre-op testing. This was actually a very pleasant experience. Everybody was really amazing and super friendly. Unfortunately, I have to go back to give them some spare blood for typing before my surgery, but that wasn't their fault!
So, now I'm doing the liquid diet thing and am pretty miserable, but knowing that I'm not alone has been a huge help. Seeing the success of everybody keeps me going through the day when I feel like I just can't do this.
Surgery is set for 3/15 at 4:30 in the afternoon. Talk about a LONG day! The kids are on spring break so we'll be at home together for the morning before heading to the hospital. I'm supposed to be released on that following Saturday if all goes well.

Hey Jen,
You may be excited now, but in a month or two, you will be ecstatic! The pain won't be bad - just don't be afraid to take pain medication. Recovery should be taken slowly, and you should feel like yourself in no time.
The cool thing with the liquid diet, it gets you prepared for the low amount of calories you will be getting in the first month or so. Trust me, I was crazed with the amount of meals I had to have - five a day - but I did get used to it, and so will you.
When the weight starts coming off -- enjoy & celebrate it. When you start to slow down, do NOT get upset, it will happen. This is a long journey, but well worth it.
If you need anything from us, this is a GREAT group of folks to have in your corner! I have received so much support, my journey has been pleasurable!!!
Congratulations on the beginning of a new life!

Thanks guys! I'm really excited. People keep asking if I'm scared and I keep telling them that I don't have time to worry. Between getting work wrapped up by next week and getting things done around the house and dealing with kids and school and everything else my life throws at me, I've got plenty to keep me busy.
I've been doing great following the doctor's orders for my pre-op diet. Other than a slight mess up on my brother's birthday (but even then, I ate beef and no carbs and still stayed around 1000 cal for the day), the only other "cheats" have been Tuesday and Wednesday. I was swamped at work and never took the time to drink a shake. I was o****il I got in my car to drive home. Then I was hungry! So, I stopped at Chick-fil-A and bought a 6 count grilled nuggets. No sides, no sauce, just 6 little griled nuggets. Honestly at this point, they tasted as good as anything could be! I figure it was a smart decision if I was going to cheat. 110 calories, 1 g fat , no carbs and 18g protein. Not bad!
Now I'm only a week away and realized that I have 6 more days of the shakes, 1 day of clear liquids and the day of surgery with no food/drinks (surgery isn't until 4:30 pm...UGH) to get through.
I'll keep everybody updated with what's going on in the next week. Thanks for the support!
