rewards/incentives?

So, I would imagine most of us reward ourselves for our accomplishments with food - or at least did until we got to this point...

So, what are you doing now to reward yourself for your accomplishments?

AND, what are you doing to reward (or incentivize) yourself for meeting your weight loss (other than the obvious reward of better health!)

I know my therapist is going to ask me this, so I'm trying to decide what to do...she recommends rewards along the way, not just one big reward at the end. I don't count buying necessary work clothes along the way to be a 'reward'.

I know what I want at the end (a vacation when I reach goal, plastics for the tummy when I've maintained for at least 6 months, if not longer - assuming that we haven't convinced the Ministry that removing the pannus is necessary surgery), but along the way? I'm not sure!

I'm also trying to pay off some debt over the next few years, so I can't make it too expensive...

It WAS going to be some gorgeous port glasses from Nova Scotian Crystal (annapolis pattern) but I got tired of waiting and bought them on my last business trip to Halifax!  And really, I don't want my rewards to be food or drink oriented!

I think maybe at the halfway point I'm going to take another class in warm glasswork - I took a half-day course in Pittsburgh, but I'd like to learn more - I haven't done any slumping or grinding yet.

What about you folks?

I believe  in setting small goals in order to maximize accomplishments.

So my goal was/is always to move into the next set of 10s----like 350s, 340s, 33s. etc.  Since i like earrings, i would purchase a pair of cheap earrings at each goal. But I got to the point where I really had too many. So I moved to buying like 5 new songs for my Ipod. Really just something small that I normally wouldn't have done.

Now it's getting more difficult-----so the rewards are a little bigger. I'm watching sites like Groupon and LivingSocial and purchasing different things to do that I wouldn't have done at previous weights.  Still not huge expenditures but new experiences or things I haven't done in many years-----skeet shooting, horseback riding, helicopter ride over the city, etc. I like your class idea!

Food and drinks (alcohol) are no longer a reward or a way to celebrate events in my life----if I have control over the situation.

Oh, good idea about activities...I have a friend who's into archery - that will be one of my rewards! It's inexpensive too!

I should think more in term of activities...years of arthritis and weight makes me think of "things" not actions...that's gotta change!

You're right ---activities/actions become so much easier---more pleasurable as the weight goes down.  I just put archery on my list of  "try it".  Always looking for new ideas!

I agree, your therapist will want to know this. I had to think about this too.

The big ones at the end are international travel, plastics, and new wardrobe.

The smaller ones along the way are fitted outfits or workout gear here and there (obviously not much since I'm losing but it's motivating to wear clothes that fit), make up, haircut (yesterday), movies or bowling (big because I'm a home body), and technology.

I've been slow to update technology because of a lot of transitions that I am going through. But I have already picked some. Two things I will get in April when I go out of state to find a place to live. My friend who lives out there is a techy person. So eventually, I will have a digital camera and smart phone.

Oh I just bought music too.

For a 50 lb loss I said i was going to get a massage. haven't had one in years and never had a professional one. I am overdue in getting it though (hit 50 lb goal 8 lbs ago). I need to get in gear and make an appt especially because my back has been hurting. It seems like every so often my back will hurt no matter what i do so i think it might be a readjustment of fat/posture. I have also thought about rewarding smaller goals with mani's or pedi's, facials, a new outfit, etc. Do something you wouldn't normally do for yourself, you deserve it!
