I would venture to say.... Do not go in with any expectation of a number of pounds you will lose the first month after the WLS. It does vary for everyone.

For me I gained around 40 pounds of fluid. I had my surgery 12-15-10 and did not actually weight loss until 01-2011. I then started to see the weight loss fast after that. Again, everyone's bodies are different and so go into the WLS with the mind of this being a lifetime journey and the weight loss will happen. Stick to your guidelines and get your EXCERSIZE and you will do great!!

Best wishes kiln your journey!!!

Hugs,
Sherrie

Yup, everyone is right. There is no way to tell how much or how little you will lose in that month. However OH has this really cool little tracker to give you an estimate...

It's not a magic crystal ball or anything, but it should give you an idea!

Good luck,

I also gained water weight in the hospital. I was in for 5 days while they pumped me full of IV fluids. I gained 33 lbs in the hospital! Even though it was water weight and temporary, it was still frustrating and disappointing. It took a few weeks to get tha****er weight back off and then the real loss started. I am 7 1/2 months out and have averaged a pretty steady 3 pound per week loss. I know some people lose more but I am okay with the 3 pounds per week as I have not really stalled and I know others have.

Gary nailed my favorite quote... Your results may vary, and boy do they!

Depending on your activity level, what your diet was like prior to surgery, you can lose up to 30 pounds  the first month -- but no guarunty of that.  You could lose less, you could lose more.

My weight loss has been very steady -- about the same amount every three months, but after a year, it is finally slowing down.  It is a tool, so how you use it will also dictate how fast or slow you lose.
