Hey folks,
I am currently at 350+lbs at the moment and I have yet to receive my surgery date but I was wondering roughly how much weight will I be able to lose in, well, lets say a month after my (Roux-En-Y) gastric bypass surgery? Just a roundabout figure anyway.
Thanks!
If there ever was a time to take to heart the disclaimer "Individual results may vary" it is in relation to the WLS. My results were not typical.
I was told that I should loose about 1 pound a day for the first 30 to 60 days and then taper off to a steady loose of about 1/2 a pound.
I lost the pound a day only about for 2 weeks post-op and then about 1/2 a pound a day. But, on the plus side I maintained that 1/2 pound a day rate for about the next 10 months. In other words, I did not have the quick weight loss that most had, but a long steady loose. I did follow the program (more or less).
I am now down to about a 2 to 3 pound per week loss, but with a lot of ups and downs. I also have to work harder now to maintain a loss. As we loose weight, we burn less calories just living.
In the end, I am about where I feel I should be. My starting BMI was 63. About 1 year later, I have lost about 70% of my excess weight. The non-scale stuff if where I really notice a difference. I am much healthier, with more energy and zest for life than I have had in 30 years.
So to sum it up. It varies among people, and you will get lots of different answers.
Try not to think about a month after surgery, but a year, and a lifetime after surgery.

I didn't have the RNY but...here's my input.
It's hard to give you a number. There are so many factors. If you're on a pre op diet, you probably see a significant loss. Then after surgery----a gain due to fluids and recovery ----then you lose that and the process will start.
IMO and from observation, it seems like folks go really big or fairly small that 1st month. Takes a little time for the body to adjust.
Probably didn't give you a good # answer but just some observations.
PS----I think I saw your post on R&R---sorry you had those problems!

If you check my profile, you'll see my monthly stats for WL. But it varies so much it's hard to say there's an avg.
