This is week 2 of my preop diet. Well, week 3 really because I started slimming down on my portion sizes and eating high protein low carb a week before I was told to do so. Last week was replacing one meal a day with a shake, and this week has been replacing 2 meals a day with protein shakes. Next week is all shakes!! I have to seriously fight myself from going into the kitchen and eating my lil girls' white cheddar puffs LOL Serioulsy, I do not get full or really feel anything after a shake. i ate a bowl of blueberries and cried after cuz I felt guilty for cheating. I can eat all the sf jello I want but I have never been a jello fan. I drink hot tea when I feel a strong craving, but I am feeling really uncomfortable and sad. Food has such a hold over me, I feel so hungry I just want to cry and rant all day long lol I added a fiber pill to my diet but nothing is helping me. I don't know how I am going to get through next week...slap me please LOL

We have all been there.  Each surgeon requires something a little different- can you eat greek yogurt or any other proteins besides complete liquid?  Sometimes that helps.  Keep your protein level up that will help with cravings.  Also if something in your house is going to derail you throw it out or pack it up so it is out of sight.

Fruit that has sugar in it-- is just going to make you hungry again.

Do the best you can, that is all they can ask.  Hang in there, remember it will get better and in a few more weeks you will have the surgery you need to save your life correct?

And no one needs to slap you!! You can do this, you just need some support :-)

Cry and get the emotions out - it will help. Remove as much carbs, and sugar from your diet and keep your protein up!

HANG IN THERE!

Well, the bowl of blueberries was a much better choice than a whole pizza or a mcdonalds meal or things like that that other people chose to "cheat" with so at least you chose something healthy. I have to tell you that the preop diet was the hardest part of the process for me and my preop diet was so easy! No starches, low sugar, no soda, high protein. I think that was it. No gaining weight at all. I did it for 3 weeks and lost 9 pounds (which I didn't feel was enough). I was literally angry and trying to hurt people. My coworker said that I was so hostile that at times she was concerned for her safety.

I kind of feel like us higher weight people have an even bigger challenge with our preop diets because we have to detox from food even more. It's like a crack addict who has been addicted for more years and does twice the amount of crack per day. Our detox is harder on us because our bodies are that much more dependent on the carbs and sugar and soda and our minds are that much more dependent. It is evident by the size of our bodies. I have heard people on the other boards say that all of our addictions are the same but I can't believe that to be true. That being said, you are dealing with some tough **** right now. Don't get yourself down for the blueberries. I actually think it's cute that your "downfall" was BLUEBERRIES! :) Seriously, try to talk yourself through this. I can't imagine having to only drink shakes (maybe you can put fruit in them?!) but just think... in a week you'll have surgery!! OMGGGGGG!!!! You're going to be on your way! Nothing is going to beat that. No hamburger and no blueberry! You just wait and see!

Be strong dear.

thanks for the replies, i was feeling really low and just needed to get it all out there. I can't believe how hard this is. I thought that after a week my body would be use to it, and that I wouldn't be so hungry-but the less I eat the more hungry I am-my body just doesn't want to get with the program. I am hangin in-doing my best to stick to this rigid plan. I know it will be worth it in the end. I just am so so so very hungry and nothing I do is working to make that go away. I can not wait until surgery so at least the hunger is gone...

You can do this!  And know, IMO, it's the most difficult part of this entire journey. Physically, you're detoxing from all those carbs. And, let's face it, you're hungry. Mentally--it's the roughest---but you just have to deal with it. Write a list of all the reasons you want WLS and maybe some fun goals-tape it to the frig to remind yourself why your doing this!!!

Drink, Drink, Drink---coffee, tea, water, crystal lite, anything----(no soda!)---It will help keep you full and it's good practice to get your fluids in now!

This too will pass. Be strong!

I'm with Elaine, keep drinking water and keep busy.

Remind yourself, that it's okay to be hungry. We have gotten so used to the cycle of , "I'm hungry" and then fulfilling that need right away, it can be VERY tough to break. But a little bit of hunger is not going to kill you.

Sometimes thinking about that helps me, I can acknowledge that I am hungry, then realize it's a need I'm not going address with food, but with water, exercise, or another activity and it helps. Oh and I chew a lot of gum! For some folks it's a trigger, but for me it helps...

It is really difficult, but you can do it! I did 3months of a shake for Bfast and Lunch, and a low carb dinner and it wasn't easy at all! I did however, also schedule in one cheat day a month, so that I would have something to look forward to, and I didn't go super crazy on that day either.

You can SO do this!

my pre op diet was only for 10 days it allowed solids but no meat carbs veggys fats etc but the ricotta cheese and cottage cheese really helped fiend off cravings also i was allowed soup broth. maybe see if you can add those. for me the post op is hard i am 1 week out and in the the 2nd week  clear 2 so still mostly clears but i can add protien shake like boost.  smelling people cook real food in my household and eat is driving me nuts lol i would give anything for something solid in my mouth even an apple. but we all can suffer through it for the ultimate pay off

I will not lie to you my pre-op  diet was the hard thing.  I ever did. I am a total compulsive overeater.   I cheat on my three week diet.  I was  afraid to cheat the last week.  So alot of crying  was involved.  Even  after surgery . You will be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks.  So do not kill yourself starting to early.  With the liquid diet. Seven days is enough.  I was so sick of  protein shakes. They started making me sick and I usually love the shakes.  So  I drank lots of chicken broth and hot tea.   But, I felt it took me almost two months before eating anything even mushy without getting sick. I hate jello to so.  I understand what you mean.  I was drinking alot of chicken and beef broth.  I like salt stuff more than sweet stuff.  Also Watch,  How much salt your putting into your body.  I was so thirsty for something different than shakes.  Potato soap with chesse is a favorite of mine. . Just drain out the potatoes. Just drink the broth.  I was so hungry and crazy for something different.  After surgery about the third week  I actually enjoy Campbell,s Oyster soup. I would just drink the broth. I thought it was the greatest  thing.  Since,  It was so different,  I thought the  broth was great. But, 4 months later. I must really been crazy and out of my mind.   Because,  Oyster soup is  horrible. Fishy soup.  I don't know what was going through my mind . I must have been really straving.   Or Totally out of my mind.
I have to say most of  the hunger goes away after the surgery. Once your able to get  some protein  food down.  You will so full from drinking watering sips of water that you will be full.   Most of your craving leave you and the weight will come off.  You will probabily have doubts like.  We all do and  Think made the worst mistake of your life.   But, the first three months  after surgery is really hard.   But,  Know it is so worth it. and Even through it will be hard.  Once the weight starts coming off you will know it was all worth it. Nothing worth wild comes easy.
Drink Orange crystal light and tea helps alot.
