Got my IVC Filter today!!!

Everything went fine, thank God! UNLIKE what they told me before, they went in through my neck...not my groin and placed the filter. I was awake the whole time...just felt some heavy pressure on my neck when they were putting the tube in and taking it out. The process itself took 10 minutes...I was staring at the clock. Easy peasey. They wheeled me up to my room and let me eat a little something and then sent me right home. Apparently if they go through the groin you have to stay still with your leg stretched out for 6 hours, so I'm kind of glad they used the neck. But...BOY AM I SORE. Whew! I can't really turn my neck and I never realized how much you use your neck muscles just to function normally.

But, this is the first step towards my surgery on the 22nd...so I'm glad it's over with.

Now wish me luck on the 22nd!!! I hope I'll get through that just as easy. If I'm up and alert after the surgery I'll make sure to post!

I wont be getting mine out until the end of the month or beginning of next,  So far a few people in my support group have had them out.  I hadn't heard anything bad.  I was completely under when they put the filter in.  I am hoping I will be completely under when they take it out.

My surgeon says better safe than sorry. Apparently anybody with a BMI over 60 is at greater risk for a blood clot, so I had to get one. They also make people with a history of blood clots get them first.

Sounds scary- you are so brave for doing that! I hope the discomfort wanes quickly and you are able to have a normal life till surgery!

Are you already working on lifestyle changes in preparation for surgery?

Wishing you much luck,
