Peo Op Low Iron Question

Hoping you can all give me some better advice than the doctor office. I've been told that I need to take iron sulfate due to low iron in my blood work.

They recommend taking iron sulfate 65mg with a glass of OJ on an empty stomach.

Big issue? OJ has a TON of calories and I am trying to lose weight. Their recommendation is that I take it with something with vitamin C.

Does this mean I can just take a Vitamin C caplet with it? I don't want to drink a cup of juice every day because I just feel it's counter acting trying to cut calories.

Thanks!

You are correct, there is no need to drink OJ, you can just as easily take a vitamin C tablet. Also if you're anemic I would think about taking more than that. I take a Ferrett's 120mg daily to keep my iron up....and as always with 500mg of Vit C!

Agreeing with Danni - I take my iron with my B Complex & mega C at night, so none of it bugs me.  Some folks get an upset tummy form the Iron, it's the B Complex that makes me gag!!!  Always combine Iron with Vitamin C for best absorption, and NEVER drink coffee or milk when you take the Iron (Calcium & caffeine rob you of the Iron).

I take mine with a piece of citrus fruit in the mornings.  But I agree with the answers above.   Iron is really hard on the tummy if taken alone.

Thanks everyone!

Appreciate the info. It was the only thing I was instructed to take and of course when they called with my lab results they just said I needed to take 65mg of iron sulfate and didn't explain how bad my levels were or anything like that. So I just got a vitamin C to go with it. I'll still take it in the morning unless the iron bothers me. It did when I was pregnant with my boys but I attribute that as much to the pregnancies.
