Pre-Ops!! Want to know how to lose 263lbs in 15 months?

Please research ALL of your surgical options... Anyone with a BMI of over 50 should only get the duodenal switch procedure (very few exceptions to this)

I had surgery July 30, 2010... 15 months ago...
Starting weight 448lbs... Current weight 185lbs...
263lbs lost

Here is my pre-op photo and 2nd is the latest full body pic I have... taken about a month ago.. size 12 jeans (I can now fit a 10!!)

To all the pre-ops out there.... Please do research on all surgical weight loss options.

There is absolutely no way I could eat my current way I'm eating now and would have lost the amount of weight I have lost thus far with any other weight loss surgery besides the DS!!!

What I've eaten so far today... (very typical day for me)

Between the hours of 7AM and 2:30PM
2 corn tortillas with melted mozzarella cheese and hot sauce
1 Yoplait yogurt
1 sandwhich thin peanut butter and jelly sandwhich
1 angus burger with cheese on a whole wheat bun
1 cup of tomato basil soup
1 large pickle
1 Lindt Lindor dark chocolate

Pending -- Hours of 2:30PM and 9:00PM
1 sandwhich thin turkey, cheese tons of mayo sandwhich
3 pieces of provolone cheese (i eat it plain out of the package as a snack)
1 Italian sausage brat
1 cup of acorn squash heavily buttered
1 italian sausage brat (i eat dinner almost twice every night usually 5:30PM and 8:30PM )
2 sugar free popsicles

This is a pretty standard day of eating for me.
I work out, therefore I allow myself extra carbs. If I notice my weight loss slowing down or stopping... I'll cut back, but I haven't noticed it thus far...

I LOVE FOOD now.... Food is no longer my enemy... I have a healthy relationship with it. I revel in eating rich decadent food and I'm so glad to not be ashamed anymore!
Everything in moderation is key for me in my life.

I AM SOO glad that I can eat normal healthy portions of food. I eat like my 5'2" 100lb sister. I can go out to eat with people and they wouldn't have known that I had weight loss surgery. It made the dating life sooo much easier!

My next goal is to get to 175lbs... With the DS... I have no doubt I'll get there!

PLEASE READ ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY OPTIONS!!

My BMI was 64.3 when I started this journey... It is now 26.5

When I researched the DS and found out that the DS is the most superior surgery for people with a BMI of over 50... I knew I wouldn't have any other surgery. I wanted the best tool to get all the weight that I needed off.

Please go and check this site out... Read up about the DS... I had been scheduled for an RNY and 2 weeks before my surgery date I found out about the DS... Researched my heart out...I'm soo glad I did!  It was NOT hard to switch surgeons and surgeries... I had my DS 3 months after I was scheduled for the RNY

Congrats on your loss. You've done well.

I disagree that DS is the only surgery people with a BMI over 50 should get. It takes a special kind of person to be able to comply with a DS life style and sadly, most people can't/won't be able to do it.

I started with a BMI of 60+ and will do just fine with the sleeve.

I don't believe WLS has absolutes. Everybody is different.

RNY 7 months ago, over 150 lbs lost.

EXACTLY!!!  Not all surgeries are for everyone - even folks can accomplish excellent losses without surgery -- it is harder, but it can be done.

Like they say, "Your results may vary"...

Statistically speaking... the DS is a more superior surgery for anyone with a BMI of over 50

This is exactly why we are all given the right to have our own opinions.  I am happy you love your DS, and yes, you have smoked me in the weight loss numbers, but I went in a different direction.

Congratulations on your success!
