Sept 30 - Plastics Consult...

Took my own advice (pull my big girl panties up), and nudging from a few friends (thanks to Anna & Kari!!!), I finally made the appointment to see if my pannus can be worked on sooner than later!

My main worry before making the appointment was, would any doctor work on someone still around a 50 BMI?  Having my pannus weigh an estimated 30 pounds, my back is now troubled, when it never was before -- this AFTER losing 150+ pounds!  So, I will post NEXT WEEK, if I have found a surgeon who will work with me to remove the one part of my body I have hated since I was a teenaged girl!

BYE BYE FUP!!!  That is what my pannus is known by - "Fup"... Maybe a wake will be in order???

I hear you - I really wish I could get mine done now for a temporary solution, but I dont know if Kaiser would do it now or if it's worth the extra surgery. Im sure mine isn't close to 30 lbs but it's still heavy and irritating and causing lots of rashes/infections.

I can't wait to hear about how the consult goes.

Good luck with the consult. I am sure you will let us know how it goes

I can't wait to get mine removed. I am about half way to my goal and I look like ET.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a viking funeral for mine.

Viking Funeral!  I love it!!!  Heck, they wouldn't let me take home my twin -- medical term "teratoma" - so I have doubts they will allow me to take FUP home & have a funeral...

If Kaiser won't do it now - be patient.  I figure if they tell me I still have X number of pounds or X number of time, then at least I finally know.

Crossing my fingers it will happen sooner than later...

That is great Brenda!  I hope you can find a surgeon and get it done now and be Fup-less:)

Hey Gina -- The first surgeon is on Friday the 30th -- hoping I don't have to surgeon shop...

I hope ALL of us become FUP-LESS (if you had fup to begin with)!

I'm really interested to see what you find out. My pannus is becoming even more of a hinderance to any sort of normal movement. It hangs to my knees. I had a surgery a few years ago that went horribly wrong and I have a cantaloupe sized ball of hard scar tissue that hangs on the end of it, preventing me from wearing pants and really makes it difficult to wear underwear, too. My pannus is so loose now that I have to be careful turning over in bed because I roll on it and pinch it! I have only lost 80 pounds, and have a bunch to go, but I wonder if I will have a pannus to my ankles before I am done.

Good luck!

Tammy --

Have you talked with either your bariatric surgeon or your primary doctor about your pannus???  I think you should, as most insurance (even Medicare) covers RECONSTRUCTIVE surgery - which yours would be.

The extra weight is a big issue (bad pun, not intended) and the skin is considered reconstructive if only two inches over the pubis.  Please seek remedy!!!

I will be updating what I hear on Friday -- I hope this helps inspire some of you to get your work looked into!!!
