I have a surgery date! (and other happenings)
Well, I have a date. August 10th at 8:30am. I started my pre-op diet yesterday and I feel horribly restricted with the '2 protein shakes and any non-starch veggies' rule. Basically it sucks. I don't feel "hungry" when I really think about it, but I'm craving food like nobody's business. I have been coming up with some ideas to help me not feel so deprived. So far the last two days have been protein shakes and cucumber... BORING. Maybe a spaghetti squash with a pasta "sauce" of fresh tomatoes, zucchini, onions, mushrooms and spinach? Any other ideas?
I feel so blessed to be having this surgery. I love my pre-op team and my surgeon is amazing. My mom is coming to stay for a week or two after I get released. We're trying to come up with some activities to do that won't be too overwhelming for a newly recovered patient. Obviously I will be doing some walking regularly to avoid complications, but what are some other things y'all have tried? We're thinking of going out for manicures, and she's going to help me organize my craft supplies (easily a 5 day task).

You will make it through! One of the suggestions I tell folks wanting to have surgery is to start living like they are post op -- change your diet so it isn't a shock.
The surgery should help you, you will lose your hunger - then all you have to deal with is "head hunger," which can be overcome!
Congrats on the date, and hang in there, you are just over two weeks away!

Thanks. Up until this point I had been eating more bariatric-friendly foods, but I wasn't practicing portion control like I should have.
I'm now day 3 into my pre-op diet and things are getting easier. My stomach isn't bugging me quite as much and mentally I'm in a better place than I was a few days ago. I have noticed some emotions coming out in me now that I'm not comforting with food. I expect I haven't seen the last of those.
Last night at my pre-op check in (we do it 2 weeks before and the day of) the girl running the EKG told me she was 6 months out from a bypass surgery. She was only a little smaller than me when she started and now she's SO CUTE. Said she was a size 14 which amazed me because that looks really tiny.
I know so many good things will come of this experience. The nervousness is still here, but the excitement is starting to take over.

You are SO on the right path! Yes, around day three/four things get a WHOLE lot easier, I guess our bodies (and heads) adjust.
Hang in there, you will a size 14 soon enough ;) I am still overjoyed to be able to wear so many more things than just three months ago. My closet is FUN, again.
Here is my wish to you being well and having much success!

My Dr doesn't have a pre op diet per se. However, when I started this process I lost 20lbs before my nut app't. (wanted to shrink liver) ha! She gave me a high protein diet eating 2000 cals a day!!!! Omg!!! Ever since I have been eating everything I can think of because I'm thinking it's my last. (I know I will be able to have most things on maintenance) I am struggling now to lose. I'm thinking to go back to doing what I was before(low carb/high protein) and pretend to have a better pre op diet. Sending good vibes your way!
