Hi everybody,
my name Natonna and I'm new here, just looking for new friends and I'm just happy to be in a community that knows where I've been and where I'm going.I am pre-op and I will be having the RNY done.At this time I do not have my date but,I'm working on it! I have had all my appointments I have even gotten my approval. My surgeon has asked me to get down to 355lbs and I'm kinda having a hard time with that.I just started taking Phentermine last week and I've been swimming all week with my kids.I've also started a semi liquid diet(which I'm kind struggling with) but if any one has gone through this can you please tell me what helped you and how you over came Thanks sooo much.

I'm currently pre-op too and here are a few things that I found helped me (in no particular order):

1.  Keeping a food journal - this is essential.  I keeps me accountable.
2.  Read labels -  Look at the labels to see what you're eating. When I'm tempted to eat something I look at the label and see the serving size, calories, fat, protein, carb, sodium and sugar and determine are those extra calories worth it.
3.  Measure/Weigh your food - I didn't realize how many calories I was actually eating before this and I was astonished.
4.  Stop eating out -  If I wanted pizza I would make it at home with a recipe I was given by my nut, only 300-350 calories for a whole individual pizza, and my daughter loves it too.
5.  Substitute food for lower calories healthier options.  For example eating greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt , whole wheat pasta instead of regular pasta, brown rice instead of long grain white rice and so on.
6.  Pre-plan meals and have healthy snacks available - this helps you avoid eating things that you shouldn't.  I found having a box of protein bars on hand at all times helped.  When I run out the door I grab one to ensure I have something to eat in case I get hungry.
7. Drink, drink and drink - try to get at least 64oz of water a day.  I bought 2 refillable 32oz water bottles and carry one EVERYWHERE I go.
8.  Exercise - great job on the swimming.  I found walking was my friend.  Being this heavy it was hard for me to do much more in the beginning, but now I have improved to the point where I can Zumba, well at least for most of it :o)

Don't worry we all struggle, I know I did, and you just have to find what works for you.  Just stay positive!! We can do this!!

Hi Natonna,

I was a little bigger than you when I started.  I had pretty much given up on myself.  Thankfully, I did not need to lose weight before surgery.  I am so glad I had the RNY.  I wish I would have done it when I was much younger.  I am really enjoying life now and being active and able to do whatever I want with no limitations.

I wish you all the best!  Good times are coming!

Hey there!

You can make it to 355! I was just like you and started at 390 when i started to go thru WLS process!  I had to lose weight and did so by giving up sugar, soda, and carbs... I also was on a liquid diet for 6 weeks prior to surgery!

By far the roughest part is BEFORE surgery! But i started to give up my habits I knew I couldnt really continue after and I found it to work for me...

You will get there! It was the best decision of my life. By far.

Good Luck!

Jessica

It will not be easy. But, You can do it. My pre- surgery weight loss 395 to 340 pounds.  Giving up soft drinks  is great.  But, Also be careful with using to much sweet-in- low in your drinks like tea.  I learned Sweet-n-low makes you gave weight.  Just limit it.
Also eatting about  4 Almonds about 15 minutes before you meal helps you to eat less and stop you from being hungry all the time.  So you eat less. It kills the hunger cravings.

Bless wishes on you Success.  God Bless you
