Hi everyone!
I haven't really been active on here, more in the lurking mode... But something just kind of bothered me and I wanted to get it off my chest... I went for the seminar with my mother (we are doing this as a team) and when it comes time to meet the team they are asking us if we have given any thought to what surgery we are thinking about, now they assumed I guess because I had a higher BMI vs anyone else in the seminar group that I was going to go with the VSG... Does majority of people with a BMI of 80 go for the VSG? I mean its not a big deal because I was thinking about it anyhow but what made them think that was the one I was going for? the same thing went for my mother, they thought she might want to go with the lapband (she's not she is leaning towards the VSG as well)... yes my mother is atleast 200lbs less then I am or a 180lbs less then me but still why would they assume or think that?

I started at a BMI of 74.2 -- goal to get surgery was 60 BMI. I had Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass just 4 1/2 months ago. My boyfriend who started out at a similarly high BMI was approved for Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, but due to losing his health insurance, he has postponed his surgery.
Do your research, and ask the surgical team. RNY has it's advantages and disadvantages -- same with all the other surgeries. Don't be afraid to ask!
