Bye, Bye Triggers!
I just wanted to pop on here & tell all my fellow over 50BMI Peeps that there is a life without cravings! Yesterday, I baked cookies for my family, and never needed to even lick the bowl, I am craving free!
The Vagus Nerve is supposed to be what keeps us post-op folks from needing to rummage through the kitchen cabinets. Well, if that is what the switch that was flipped is called - so long Vagus!
Three months out of surgery - I hope this feeling doesn't diminish - I haven't had the "itch" when I drive past fast food restaurants. The "Oooo, that looks good," watching commercials. Basically, I can actually face food for what it is: FUEL. That monkey is off my back.
I still log my food journal, went BACK to using a smaller plate (saucer, actually), and ask myself, "When did I last eat... Do I need protein/water/food?" The hunger is gone. I hope it stays gone (again, only three months out), and if it doesn't, I am sure I will be able to adapt.
My progress is not as fast as some, but I am pretty damn happy with it. I started last March with a BMI over 74 - today (almost) a year later, I am a 59BMI. My weight loss after surgery in three months is MORE than the eight months prior. One hundred pounds - OH YES! Gone!
So, if you are worried about what life after surgery is like, just ask around. Most of us will be happy to say it was what we needed. I am just tickled pink that I do not spend hours of the day thinking about food. I do not fight over what I should/could have, and I do not carry the guilt of having something I know isn't good for me.

Hey Molly! Yes, I FINALLY was released on Monday - so hoping to kick up the internal combustion through exercise! I hope the Honeymoon lasts a LONG time...
Hey Crispy! I am trying to "work it"! It has been frustrating without exercise, but I am cleared & ready to go!
Hey Warrior Mom - There is nothing quite so repulsive as Burger King's flame broiler exhaust - didn't like it before surgery, REALLY hate it now! I know to close my vents befor coming near the intersection!
