Surgery at over 500 pounds?

I started walking on the treadmill at home and taking my dog for walks. It was slow at first and I just built up resistance little by little. You might want to try swimming. That's what I did post op until i was light enough to graduate to dry land LOL I found the walking was hard on my hips but I did what I had to do to get some weight off before surgery. My surgeon said that since i'm healthy, if my body can function at the weight i was, if I took off any weight it would help during the surgery. Since I wanted to be sure I would not have any problems during surgery I got out there and walked every day and amazingly enough between the change in diet and some exercise i really lost weight.

Thank you all for giving your input and responding. I am feeling much more confident about my weight going into surgery. I have started doing water aerobics and have completely cut out bad carbs from my diet (bread, rice, crackers, tortillas, etc.). I'm down a total of 66 pounds now. My goal is 100 total by my surgery date (my surgery is in July) so I really need to get cracking! But it is only a personal goal not the end of the world if I don't achieve it.

On Friday my surgeons office called and I thought they were giving me a date (I had done everything else required of me). They told me they could give me a date for September OR I could switch surgerons and have a date begining of July. I opted to switch surgeons. So I have to meet him on Friday (the surgeon wants to meet me) and then after that I will be in line for a surgery date. What a long journey (been almost 3 years) and I can't believe I'm almost there. WOW!

SURGERY / 1st DAY OF MY NEW LIFE = JUNE 14, 2011

Lost since surgery - 177 pounds
Total loss - 254 pounds

I am worth this!

I have desperately been looking for a surgeon that will even talk to me about it, I keep being told they can't do it because of their malpractice insurance stopping them. It's really breaking me down
