Heavy - on A & E

Who all on here saw the first episode of Heavy?  I was interested in how much the guy could eat in one meal - SIX Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers & three orders of Chicken thingys?  I was happy to see how he turned himself around in six months - wow!

The female (sorry, I guess I could have searched their names out) surprised me by how self defeating she was.  She came across as a more confident type, so it was odd to see her cry & whine.  Her becoming a better, more confident person by the end of the six months, did make me proud of her.

For anyone who is looking for non WLS ways to lose the weight, this is a great show for them.  Six months in an hour, shows it can be done!  I salute ALL the people who signed on to be on the show - I know I don't have the guts to be followed for six months and shown to the public!  It was a good show, I intend to keep watching it -- it was inspiring to me.

I saw the show and I agree, Brenda - very interesting.  That guy weighed 680 pounds or something.  In the words of my obesity doctor: At that weight the body cries out for food.  I ate more than other people, too.  Although I usually couldn't eat it at one sitting, I would be too full.  I'd just pick at it and pick at it - snacking was (and is) my downfall!

It is interesting to have more of a documentary style, rather than a contest a la Biggest Loser.  It's much more like Hoarders or Intervention.  Quite dramatic and YES - being very public about very private matters.  Don't think I'd want to do it either.  On the other hand, the desperation they felt probably led them to be willing to do anything.  I understand that desperation - it lead me to let someone cut me open and re-arrange my insides!

I'm glad she came out victorious - I think his battle is great and I hope he succeeds.  I sure hope they do follow-ups later.

I had been looking forward to watching "Heavy" since they've been promoting it, and we found it inspiring as well. It was well-done...real-life triumphs and setbacks like we know, having been SMO. I could totally relate to the feelings of hopelessness related to pushing oneself during major exercise as this is foreign and my mind & body do not know they can do these hard things. Also, the guy's appetite...it was my former one to a degree. I could really really pack in some food; my appetite was huge and I enjoyed eating...the tastes, the soothing after effect. Like many of us, I'd lost 60-70 lbs. in my past a few times...quickly regaining it plus more. Wish they'd give that guy an RNY after he lost a third of his weight!

I am so very thankful and grateful that I made the life-changing decision to have this tool "installed." The weight loss of 193 lbs. to date, along with feet of inches lost, along with the wonderful surge of energy...the almost weightless feeling of walking and climbing stairs, simple activities that used to cause such pain, effort, sweat and huffing and puffing...the excitement of wearing form-fitting clothes in still-strange smallish (14/16) sizes and looking and feeling quite pretty and good...I am forever in awe of how much better my quality of life has become.

Ok, the RNY commercial is over; back to regularly-scheduled programming! Have a great rest-of-the-week!

I really enjoyed this show also and have the rest of the series set to record.  Very interesting and challenging.  I commend them to acheive their goals thru diet and exercise.  I love my RNY and have tried numerous times to lose with that routine.  Never successfully.   So grateful I am off the cycle.

I wonder how much therapy they were getting along with their exercise.  Just curious.

Starting wt. March/ 2010  385lbs
Surgery wt.  Sept/2010     322lbs
Current wt.  Sept/2013     204lbs

I really do hope they come back & check on the participants throughout the process.  When the guy wasn't staying on their "program," they brought him back to the ranch for "re-education".

This show is good to show it isn't just eating better, exercise is the key (I am still NOT released to full exercise, I still have an open wound, so just got the okay for LIGHT exercise).   Making MORE people aware that Super Morbidly Obese aren't as rare as people may think.  My highest was 474, but luckily I was still in pretty good physical shape.  One of my biggest fears was seeing lymphodema (sp?), as I have a lump on my injured calf (doc says it is muscle, not fluid).

I salute these folks - they are so brave to allow their struggle to be viewed by millions of people!

Monday nights on A & E -- there have been two episodes so far, they follow two people for six months -- http://www.aetv.com/heavy/episode-guide/ may have previous episodes... I think they also replay on Sundays.

The show is non-surgical weight loss, and shows how 22 people learn how to change their lives through nutrition & exercise -- so far, it is only Super Morbidly Obese - unsure who will be the "smallest" to go through this program.

It is a good show, very positive.  The trainers do NOT berate the participants - it isn't a contest, it is for health.  I have enjoyed the show immensely.

I love the show and hope they follow up with them because they still have a long road ahead of them.  6 months was and is a good head start but just like with WLS that is all it is.  It is a jump start.  I have seen both weeks and looking forward to this 3rd week.
