No its not. There is also the option of the VSG or DS. However, with a high BMI, the malabsorption componant of both RNY and DS is going to be very important.  Be sure to research all your options when chosing which surgery is best for you.

Good Luck!!

I would consider the DS. It has the best long term results for people with BMIs over 50. Check it out at www.dsfacts.com.

I had the RYY gastric bypass in Nov. of 2005.  I lost 240 lbs.  My starting BMI was over 60.  In years four and five I regained a total of 22 lbs., which I am now in the process of losing.  The gain was due to my choice of eating sweets and junk food--nothing to do with the surgery but with my behavior.

There are a variety of issues to determine which surgery type you have, and I don't know what your concerns are, but successful loss of significant weight is possible with the RNY.
