Weight Loss Surgery Support: Daily Inspiration for December 14, 2010

Put off the next bite.

If you are having a day in which you are thinking about food nonstop, you can adopt some strategies to get you through for the short run, and start a process to overcome your grazing or emotional eating in the long run.

To stop the grazing in the short run, try putting off your eating. One strategy is to set a timer to go off when you can have your next meal, and keep yourself busy until you hear the bell. Another is to start a task that will take up all your time until your next meal. Tell yourself you'll eat when you've gotten all your papers filed, for example.

Action for the day:  If you have the urge to graze today, put it off by using a new strategy. Then, in your journal, write about how you were feeling when you began to crave the food, and how it felt to use your new strategy instead of eating.

Good advice Molly..         I find I have to keep busy in order to not graze.. finding anything to do.. even crossword puzzles while watching tv helps at night..  cleaning out closets, now decorating for Christmas and wrapping gifts...

Because of my back I do not work, and my hubby is a Truck Driver and is gone all week,  so I am here alone all day, everyday, by myself with nothing to do but think of what I am going to eat at my next meal.. and if I dont stay busy I want to graze..

I never thought of setting a timer.. I always eat my breakfast lunch and dinner at the same time every day.. I have since the beginning.... it is the inbetween I worry about now..the tendency to want to graze.. and if I stay up past 10pm I am in deep trouble with wanting a late night snack.. so most nights I try to go to bed early...

Your advice is appreciated.. since you have lost the weight and regained and now loosing again and are  back on track.. your advice, if I can follow it,  may help me not to regain.. I try to learn from others mistakes instead of making them myself...

huggs..

Hello Teresa,

Good for you on learning from my mistakes.  The inspiration I posted is from NAWLS.com and by Katie Jay.  It is a helpful, informative sight.  When I have time I post to this forum and the BOTT group.  (Back on Track Together group)

I just recently found out about this forum about 2 months ago.

Hugs,
