Three weeks, going well!

Man, I just realized I had not been back on my favorite forum since before surgery... I miss ALL of you!

During my surgery, my surgeon found a "gastric mass," which was benign, but I am so glad he found it (I blogged it, so maybe I am "The Evil Twin"...)  I had a hernia repair that is having a difficult time healing, on day nine I developed a seroma & went on antibiotics.  The wound is now being packed, and I just have to keep dressing it.

For any of you worried about surgery over 50 BMI, I want to tell you, put your fears to rest!  I spent the night at the hospital, received excellent care, had no issues with anesthesia, and was up & walking around the same night I had surgery.  My surgery went a little long - the "Gastric Mass" took extra time - so instead of the 3 - 4 hours, mine took between 6 - 7 hours.

It is week three for me, and I am doing fantastic!  I have moved to soft/pureed foods, was told to just split pills (I was crushing all of them, initially), and have had no issues.  I switched to V8 Low Sodium - which I am sipping right now, and having no problems meeting my protein & water goals.  Best thing you can do for yourself - keep a journal!

I have not been released to swim yet (the open wound), but I am getting around GREAT!  I get talked to at home, when I carry the laundry basket - so, when told NOT to lift over ten pounds - DON'T!

My suggestion to all wanting surgery:  Be as active as you can before & after surgery; start doing a modified diet months in advance (when possible); follow directions; and get SUPPORT!  Surgery is a scary thing, but with a little research & lots of support, you will be just fine!

OH!  And at week two, I was down 19 pounds!

Gastric MESS, ha ha ha!  Yeah, you made me look at the post & check it for a misspell!!

Yes, indeed-y, I am working toward the rest of my life.  I get a little anxious when I cannot just do whatever I want, maybe that voice of authority.  Dunno, but I am trying to take it easy on my body.

I am getting as much walking in as I can without pushing too far.  Making sure I get all my fluids, nutrients, and protein.  My wound care is annoying, but necessary, so I have been well behaved on that front.

With positivity by your side - ANYONE can succeed!  Trust me, more folks enjoy the company of someone with good things to say, rather than someone stuck in a negative mood...
