Six Foot Hips
I just took my body measurements and recorded them on OH. My hips were 71". Yikes! That's one inch shy of 6 ft. And this is after I've lost 65 pounds. It's humiliating to think of now, but I sure do want the record of it to compare to later. I had to use a piece of string to measure because my measuring tape only went to 60 inches. Even my hubby was shocked.
Loving my new life! I'm ever so grateful...

I haven't taken my measurements yet and I'm not sure I want to yet! Everyone puts fat on different places. I wish I was like my best friend! Her weight gain all goes to her bum and her chest but she keeps a tiny waist. I don't know why but on me my fat all goes into my belly!! My belly is big! In fact my surgeon mentioned my shape because that is where he has to get the laproscope through for surgery . A huge percentage of my weight is right in his way. I think I will tell him "Drill baby drill !!!"
Congrats on losing 65 pounds! Wooo hooo~!

When is your surgery?
It's crazy how many different body types there are. I gain weight all over. I guess that's a good thing if there's any good thing about gaining weight. My chest was only 2 inches bigger than my waist though. It didn't make me feel very 'womanly'.

I'm not sure the difference between a quilters tape measure and a regular one. Mine went to 60 inches so I had to use a string around my hips and then measure the string. I've been trying to think of a good beginning goal with my measurements and I think you just gave it to me! I want to be able to measure my hips with my tape measure!

I started at around 70 I think (my first recorded measurement was 67" for hips, but that was after losing some weight) - I had never thought about it in terms of feet. Eeek!
48.5" now... lots of excess skin

I know. Putting it into feet makes it sound worse somehow. I look at my husband who is 6 ft 3 in and just can't believe that my hips are that big around.
I've been wondering about how much excess skin I will have and what it will look like. It's likely that I wouldn't be able to have it removed. Just not enough money to do that. I'm only 30 years old, but I've been obese for a long time. My skin under my arms is already hanging and nasty... Are there any magic creams out there that draw up skin???

I'll be thirty in a few months myself and have carried a lot of excess weight since as young as elementary school. I've also carried a baby, so my skin is a total wreck.
You may be able to get your insurance to cover a panniculectomy if you can document that it impedes your mobility (like with exercise) or you have rashes, bumps, etc. Then the only cost to you is if you have that upgraded to a tummy tuck. Definitely hang out on the Plastic Surgery forum to learn more about others' experience with this.
Personally, I don't think that once you've been morbidly obese that things like creams do much good. You can tone your muslces, which some say helps - but I know for me, no amount of toning is sucking that skin back in. Once it's there, it's there.
Depressing, I know. Hopefully we can both find a method to get some insurance help with covering the cost.

When I started my hips were 61", I am 61" tall so it was a real wake up call for me. As big around as I was tall. Keep on measuring, I wish I had done it in the very beginning but didn't think of it until I had lost 20 or so pounds. They are scary numbers now but a great sense of accomplishment later on!
