I am going tomorrow to have a liver scan and blood work drawn for liver functions.. I will be 1 yr out on Nov 23rd

I did my blood work at 6 months and the liver enzymes were elevated then and now again almost at the 1 year point the doctors are concerned again.. I have not had the blood drawn for my 1 year surgeon visit yet.. that was to be done November 5th... but I had a visit with the gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy last week and they drew blood.. well his nurse called today and has scheduled all this for tomorrow..

When I was in the hospital for my back surgery in May my enzymes were elevated then (at 6 months out) and they did an ultra sound of the liver and it was ok...I told him that but he still says he is concerned and wants me to do this.. in May the AST was 60 and the ALT was 83.. I am not sure what is is now they didn't tell me and I wont know until I see the doctor for a follow up on November 3rd.. aarrggg///

Has anyone else had the liver enzymes elevated and remain elevated like this..

Mine were at normal before surgery..  AST 24 and ALT 43...

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this..

huggs....

Hi Teresa,

I had my surgery (RNY) in February 2003.  The results of my liver function tests in Nov. 2010 were slightly elevated.  (I don't have the test results here to tell you the numbers).  My dr. is re-running the tests this week with a hepatitis profile.  I'll circle back when I know something more.
Hugs,

Barbara

Barbara I hope all goes well for you.. My liver scan was fine and the hepatitis profile was ok too.. no reason they could see that the liveer enzymes should be that high..   we re-ran the blood work and the numbers had dropped to right at the top number of the normal range so Dr. said lets not do anything else since they went down and we will recheck in 6 months... but then I had to have blood drawn for an entirely different reason a month later and they were elevated again.. ???  I have no idea what is going on.. I will just wait until the follow up with the gastroenterologists at the 6 months followup and see what he says and what they are then..  I have a lot going on right now with back surgeries and back problems with walking so this is on the back burner for a little while.. I guess that is ok to do since the tests were fine that he did.. I also asked him if it could just be from having the gastric bypass done and he said no.. So it is still a mystery..

Let me know what you find out.. I will keep you in my prayers...

Huggs...

Teresa

Hi Teresa,

I checked my numbers (AST 50 and ALT 49) and they were just ever so slightly elevated since the report said the 0-40 was the normal range.  I guess I'll find out more when the doc tests me again on Friday.  Will keep you posted and I hope your elevated numbers turn out to be nothing more than a fluke.

Take care of yourself.  I've learned after almost 8 years that we can get really sick if we don't.

Hugs,

Barbara

You are not too bad on the numbers.but they deffinately need to check out what is going on before they do get any higher....  they are not as high as mine are showing up at 60 and over 80.. Thank God for that.. please let me know what you find out.. Thought and prayers are with you...

I may request a copy of the blood work done Monday just to see what the levels were.. I am really trying to do everything they told me to do and faithful on my vitamins and water.. so I hope all is ok.. I feel blessed that this is the only problem I am having besides my back which is unrelated and been going through for over 30 years...

God Bless

Huggs
Teresa
