Fingers crossed
So--
I called my insurance, Aetna, to get a explanation of some of the WLS requirements and she told me my Dr. needs to have it pre-certified. I told her I was on month 4 of diet and she said my Dr could technically call in for approval now. Is it possible I may get an approval before my dr diet is done? That would be so encouraging to finish off the diet knowing I had WLS waiting for me. I go tommorow for my weight in and hope the Dr is receptive to making the call early for me. Is this the way it went for anyone else?

I'm on an Aetna Medicare Advantage plan and didn't have to wait at all, but that's probably because I've actually been seeing a nutritionist (who turns out to be the one from my surgeon's office) for about 6 years now. Having that history sent over from her was enough I think.
If the Aetna rep says the doctor could submit for pre-approval now, I'd go for it. Make sure you have kept track of who told you that and when, so you have that info should you be denied for any reason.
