Airplane seats

Hi All    I am going to Las Vegas in a few weeks.  I have a few question from my group here.  I had surgery(RNY) in April(2010) and have lost 140 lb so far but I still have a long way to go. I am 350 now.  Do you think I will need to get a extra seat for the plane(Tranair). If you have been to Vegas is it easy to find something you can eat.  Any information you could give me would be great.

Thank you

I don't know how tall you are or how your weight is distributed, but i'm about 5'11 and I flew from CA to Miami and Cancun last year at about 370lbs. It was not comfortable, but I could fit in the seat and barely buckled the seat belt.

I flew before a little heavier than that, and I've never had to buy an extra seat(but I had some bruises from the seat belt clip thing).

It should be pretty easy to get food. They have other options than buffets (like snacks at starbucks or other little cafes) and just normal sit down restraunts. I went to this very expensive italian restraunt and the portion sizes were probably perfect for wls stomachs! I never paid more for a tiny piece of chicken in my life! I usually prefer to find food off the strip if you have a car though - you  have many more options, or just pack stuff to bring with you.

Congrats on your weight loss!!!   It depends on your height for the airplane.  I was fine on airplanes at 350.  I did not need an extender.  I am 6 feet tall and pear shaped so I have a small waist and big hips.

There are very healthy choices of food in Vegas.  Just stay away from buffets.  It will cost your more but it is worth it to buy single entrees.  bring some healthy snacks in suit case to put in refrig for breakfast.  Boil eggs, cheese sticks, almonds.  I went to Vegas about 2 years post op and did fine.  I worked out daily, did a lot of walking and ate healthy.  When my Mom and friends went to buffets I went the other way.  We did eat some meals together but I had a friend who was trying to eat healthy also, so we passed on all buffets and that was cool.  I hope you have some one with you who will support you on healthier restaurants.  Much success to you!!

When Flying don,t be ashamed to ask for a seat belt extended.  You should to pinched and squeezed for hours on end while flying.
Some planes like Delta and Southwest airlines have single seat on one side of the plane. So do have to worry about bothering another people.  When a need extra room Or have to worry about getting into another person scape.

Just ask before paying for another seat.  Don,t let anybody shame you into buying another seat. Or doing something you do not want to do. And Don,t let the Airlines embaress you into getting another seat.
They are hoping people will be to ashamed to fight for their rights. Or to even cause trouble and bring attention to themselves.

They don,t ask people in wheelchairs to buy another seat or pregnant women.

This a embaressing and sad story. But, True.

I had  to worry about the same thing.  Flying from Texas to Boston for a Family Wedding. My sister bought an extra seat.  Just so their would be no problems or embrassment on the Flight.  Because We are both big women . My sister paid and extra 550 dollars for an extra seat on around trip. We had a carry on garment bag with 8 different  dresses in it for the wedding.  So the extra seat would be useful and their encase we had need for the scape for ourselves. I weight 380 about at the time my sister 300.

Come to found out after flying there.  We did not even need the extra seat. There was plenty of room. We didn,t need to use it.

When we got on the plane back from Boston to Texas after the wedding.  The Steward  before we even got to the plane helped move a father and three year old little girl. So they could sit together.   Because, She was crying and scared. Once she got on the plane.  Because, She did not want to sit alone. This sweet little girl and her father were on different rolls.  So the Stewardess moved them to our seats.  The seats my sister and I bought.
We bought three seat on the same roll so she could sit one them their was and empty seat between us.  If was suggested to us by the airlines.   So we would not have to worry about crowding anybody.
Our last plane was delayed.  So we were some of the last few people coming on the new plane that day.

We looked for our seats and found out little girl and her father were seating in our seats. so we asked the Stewardess.   The Stewardess said she changed the seats because the little girl was crying.and We could not seat in the seat asigned to us.
Which was find the seat were big enough. We never even needed the third inside seat.

But, my sister found that the three seats.  The three seats wanted us to sit on were on three different rolls  My sister said I brought an extra seat for my sister. Because of My sisters weight. They said, We need it.  The seat can,t be on a different roll.
It,s the extra seat the airline thought we needed to pay for. Because we were fat.
My sister stood up in front of every body on the plane and told the Stewardess in front of everybody. That thoses were not our seats.  I want the seats.  That have our numbers on them. I paid good money for an extra seat.
Just so this would not happen. She said I spoke to the airlines before hand and They fix are seats and that the the way. I want them.

My sister said, If the man wanted to seat next to his daughter.  Than he should of made plans to have his seats fixed the way we did before hand.
I felt so humilated.  People were looking at us like these two mean, evil, disgusting, fat women in the world.   Because We were forcing a sweet innocence little three year baby and her young cute father to move out of our seats.
Somebody finally switch decided to switch with them.
My sister was so angery.  That the airlines put us in that position. That had forced us to buy another seat.
She said," If this Airline is going to force us to get another seat.
Then,  That seat is damn well is going to be on a same roll that we are seating on.
I said, I felt so embaressed and humillated. I wanted to kill myself.  I could wait to get off of that plane fast enough.
My sister said, Later, We had done nothing to be ashamed of. That the Airlines had no right to treat us this way. and We have to fight for ourselves. Because nobody  else in this world was going to fight for our rights..

I'm 5'8" and flew at that weight.  It definitely wasn't comfortable, but I did it.  I flew with my small daughter, so was able to borrow some of her space.  I was terrified they'd make me buy a second seat.  It really depends on a lot of factors - the biggest one being the crew members that are working that day.

Whenever I fly I ask for a seat belt extender.  I do it when you are filing in the plane door and ask the flight attendant and they hand it to you while your in line waiting to get to your seat.  Travelling with a skinny person helps too so you can raise the arm rest and steal a bit of their room!  lol

I always get a seat belt extender I also hardly ever return it I carry it from one flight to the next and then leave it on the plane when i get to my destination so I only have to ask once. I always fly with children and my spouse who is 145 pounds soaking wet so i use some of their seats. either way its not comfortable and there is no place you can go out of alaska thats a quick flight.

I wont fly again till after I have lost 50-60 pounds
