Didn't meet WLS criteria.
I had the same issue and problem my BMI was too high, I was 461 when I started and was told I needed to lose 60 lbs. I did not think I could do it. Then one surgeon said if I lost 40 lbs he would do it, I lost 40 and then the new surgeon, (the old one moved), said I needed to lose 20 lb more. Odd he is Canadian, but I am in the US. There are surgeons that do higher BMI people but if you can't travel or are insurance restricted then your options are limited. I lost it by giving up pasta, and sending someone else to store with a list. Seems like my impulse buys are always bad. Hang in there and keep swimming. It is worth it once it finally happens.
I am going through something similar. My insurance company will pay for WLS but the criteria states that the patient must have a BMI under 55. I am above the BMI limit but I meet ALL of the other criteria. I would have to lose over 150 pounds first. I have filed appeals, talked with my benefits administrator concering a possible exception and they still will not pay for WSL. I am EXTREMELY frustrated and the situation has thrown me into a deep depression. I have even researched individual insurance plans and I have yet to find one that covers WLS.
Do you thik there is anything that can be done for us? This just does not seem legal especially since the procedure is medically necessary.
