How significant is plastics?

I was wondering just how significant it is to having the hanging skin removed? We don't have the finances to have it done and I would feel guilty having us take a loan out for it when my husband has been laid of so much lately and is still not at his regular job. I don't want to lie to myself that it is such a necessity, but at the same time I am really struggling to get back on track. See, I wonder to myself that if I would have the skin removed, that I would feel better about myself and WANT to STAY on track!!!!  Is this just a BIG excuse? Tell me what your thoughts are or have been on this subject. I hope I have explained myself clear enough.
I have pictures of my hanging skin on profile in my July 2008 entry.
Thanks & God bless!

I have bad arm skin. I have quite a bit of skin on my legs and thighs too... but it's not horrible. I can still function... I am in my 20's so most of it went back. And some of it still will. But some of it... some of it is there to stay. For daily functioning it's not a requirement at this point. But I am self conscious about it and would feel much better without it. It's also in the way when it comes to close. I would estimate at least 20 pounds of excess skin - so I do think it would make a difference in helping me feel better and helping me be at a normal weight.

I still want to have a baby next year. So after that I will be pursuing what plastics we can afford. I am also trying to document any skin infections.. but I need to learn how to document better. I worry that when I get to goal I will have so much skin it will be hard for me to function.

I'd wait until your money is more stable, but then it is worth it to save, save, save, save and supplement with a short term loan.  Fight the insurance company with all your might.  Add what you have to, and get a lower body lift to address the outter thighs and backside too.  You will feel so complete and feel super in your clothes.  With your level of fitness your will look even better than you already do. Many people lose weight after plastics as a matter of course.  It is also very motivating.  Of course,  the skin sometimes can weigh a significant amount.   Loris

Do you have medical coverage?  If so, ask if some of it is covered due to rashes & impedance.  Is it a health issue?  Mobility issue?  Maybe it could be covered.

My surgeons NP actually without warning dove in to explore my pannus (fat apron) and inner thighs.  I was shocked, but she immediately said, "We will schedule you with a reconstructive surgeon, these areas will be covered..."  You could imagine how HAPPY I was to hear that!

From friends who have had some plastics covered, it was a matter of health and or mobility.  I hope you are able to have yours covered!  You were where I am now - high BMI, and ready to work on the second half of my life.
