Stupid Question

I can't believe I am actually asking this (I am embarrassed that I need to)  but I don't think my GP's scale goes up high enough to get an accurate start weight for me.  Where else can I go to get weighed?

I bought a scale at Walmart that weighs up to at least 350lbs (can't remember what it goes up to though - it was about $30)  I wonder if a weigh****chers office would have a good one - or maybe the hospital?

Hi

Its not a stupid question at all...I had this problem for years.  Most scales only weigh to 330 lbs.  I would go to the hospital. if you live in Saint John, there is a large scale at St Josephs hospital that my husband and I would go every week when we started watchingn our weight.  I bought one online since then that weighs up to 550 lbs, its digital and it has a hand held screen so you dont have to strain looking over your belly to see what you weigh...it works awesome.  I found it on www.onestopplus.com.  I buy clothes on this site as well.  It was around 70.00.  The only issue is they do not ship to Canada but since we live only an hour away from Calais, I have it sent to the local hardware store that actually is set up to take deliveries.  If you are interested let me know.  We go down fairly often and I could get it for you and send through Canada post for you...again Im not sure where you live but let me know

take care
Ang

If your GP has one of the older scales where you slide a bar along until it balances, the office may also have extra weights to hang on the balance bar. I first saw this years ago at Weigh****chers - I was mortified that they always made a big deal out of finding the weight - yeah, let's call attention to the fat lady...

Anyway, when I recently got weighed at my endocrinologist's office, they had one of these scales and I had to instruct the assistant on how to use it. Eventually a more experience staff member showed us both that there are diff weight thingies (50 and 100) and different places to hang them. Who knew!

Some people have tried to weight with 2 scales - one foot on each. I'm not sure if that works.

There are more and more digital scales available online these days. I got one similar to this from Amazon.com and am so happy to be able to weigh at home.

The one at the hospital in SJ is at the endicrenologists office so try calling your local hospital and find out where that type of doctors office is...the one here had no problem with us coming in every week to weigh, they were encouraging actually

You are on the BMI over 50 forum and I think most of us have encountered this issue.  Hospitals, mailrooms, are places I use to weigh myself when I weigh over 400 pounds.  Other have mentioned everything else like WW, etc.

There are some scales at places now that go up to 400 in stores, like Sportsmart, etc.  But they are pricey.  I invested in one before I had my surgery and that was in 2004.  Google scales and websites will come up.  I purchased my from this website:

BTW - I am so proud of you.  You can do this baby!!
