So, I am thinking of doing a couch to 5k. Currently I do Zumba and walk, but no real fitness stuff. I downloaded and reviewed the training schedule. It really seems doable! I never imagined I would be saying this, but I am doing it! Any takers?

The commitment is about 25-30 minutes 3 days a week. If you progress on schedule you will complete it in 9 weeks, but you can stay put on any 1 week in the training schedule if needed. I would love a few accountabilibuddies!!

No taker here but I wanted to comment on one of your comments......:-)  You walk and you currently do Zumba.  Why is this not considered real fitness honey.  What is real fitness to you?  Fitness is anything you do to move your body and you don't have to go to a gym to do real fitness.

Keep up the good work!!   As you get smaller your fitness levels will get even better if you keep doing more and pushing yourself and stop down playing what you do!  Zumba and walking is fitness.

Thanks Mollie! I always down play what I accomplish, I guess b/c I adapt everything to my level it somehow feels inadequate. But It is NOT! You gave me a real pick me up! thanks again!

You are so welcome. I modify my workouts every day because of my knees but I still push myself. Modifications to Zumba, Taboe, etc does not mean we are not as fit or fitter in many cases than the next person.

Just do your 5K and you will find the support there at the race and I hope you find a buddy here to support you. Have you tried the fitness exercise forum on OH.com. Post to it and I bet you will get some takers. I copied the link for you,

Hi there!

I'm trying to pull together a local group to do the C25K program here.  I plan to start it after labor day and end with the local 5K Turkey Trot.  I'm nervous b/c I still have a lot of excess weight (I'm around 235), but I've done some light interval jogging and that's gone pretty decently.  Boy do I notice the excess skin when I kick the speed up though :(

When are you hoping to start?

Well, i have already started. I am doing the walk/jog portion. Week 1 has been a little difficult, but I am making do. I had a massage today to release the soreness from my muscles. I found about a dozern takers on the c25k right here on obesity help and we are going to check in on Fridays. Some of them have already been running and some not, but all are more fit than me. (and lighter) :oP Oh well, like I told the girls, it is not about now fast we fini**** is about reaching the finish line. I hope to find a local race mid-october.
(ps i am going to try compression garments on my tummy for the noise alone, do think that will work?)

I was a little bit lighter than you when I first started the c25k. Once I realized I could run, I was hooked. I got some stares, but mostly I felt so amazing and on top of the world. It's been my favorite form of excercise now. I do wear compression  shorts and shirts because of my outrageous batwings.. it does help with the " flapping" lol. I'm too much of a coward for plastic surgery :(

I am definitely at the critical point. my body is sore and It is completely mental. But, so far so good! I have been doing my training and I am glad to know that it CAN be achieved. Thanks for that! Also, good to know the garments will quiet the squishy smacking. lol
