Hello everyone!

I just wanted to stop in and say Hi.  I have "browsed" this website for years - it is wonderful!  I have been researching and praying about bariatric surgery for about 10 years now, but have not had the insurance or financial means to pursue it for myself....until NOW!  On July 1st, my employer switched insurance providers and WLS is covered under my new plan!  I immediately began the process of getting this awesome weight loss tool for myself!  I now have hope for a healthier and more active life!

I met with my PCP yesterday and he is fully supportive, attended my first support group meeting last night and started my required 6 month supervised diet and exercise program today!  My paperwork for the surgeon has been sent in and I expect to hear back from the coordinator next week for appointments with the surgeon, dietitian, physical therapist and psych. Although I wi**** would be much sooner, I am probably looking at surgery in January 2011.

I want you to know how much I appreciate all that I have learned and will continue to learn from you all!  I am excited to be a part of this awesome community and share in the support and encouragement shown here!

Bye for now,
Sue

Welcome.  I agree with Michelle-it is a great group here!  It is my favorite board!  I look forward to following your journey.

This is a great board.  I was a lurker for awhile before I started posting.  The information these people share is awesome.

Congrats on starting the process.  It will go quickly.

Thanks for the friendly welcome!

A depressing update....I learned this morning that our union has filed a grievance regarding the change in insurance that took place on July 1st.  They are hoping to have the decision reversed and go back to the previous carrier - who DOES NOT pay for any weight loss related claims - regardless of medical necessity. I am really trying hard not to be discouraged after feeling so much hope for the first time....

I will continue to press on. I am obviously praying the grievance does not reverse the decision.  Otherwise, I pray that it is a very lengthy process and I can get through the 6 month pre-op requirements and have my surgery before they switch back.  I would appreciate your prayers!

Thanks so much! Sue

Hang in there Sue!

Sometimes a good letter to your insurance can help get you surgery even when it is excluded from your policy. Check other forums for appeal letters, it may help!  Hopefully, the insurance dilema will come out in a positive manner for you, but if it doesn't - DO NOT GIVE UP!

My primary doctor has offered to write letters and make phone calls on my behalf, so see, you just never know!

Good luck!
