Need Input from VSG in over 50 BMI

Greetings!

My boyfriend and I are taking the plunge together - the WLS plunge ;)  Anyhow, he is on the fence about RNY or VSG, so I told him this is the place to ask the important questions!

Could I get some feedback from folks who have gotten VSG, their good, bad and ugly?  We realize the weight loss may be slower (not too big an issue), but the plus side is no malabsorbtion.  Have you had a hard time with diary?  Any regrets - wish you had chosen RNY instead?  General feelings after...

We really appreciate ALL feedback!  Thanks!

I am way too early to give any credible advice. I chose the VSG for the reasons you named. Also, I am self pay and it saved me $12,000-$15,000. That being said, I am happy so far and I have lost a bit. I do have that fear of whether or not I will lose it all, or enough to be a healthy BMI. I am determined to make it work. You may try to post on the VSG board to find some of the heavier folks who have made it work. There are a few that I look up to! Best of luck to you no matter which surgery you choose.

My BMI was 60+. I had surgery jan 8th. This saved my life. I am LOVING life,& MYSELF, for the 1st time, in A LONG TIME......It has been textbook easy. I have had no complications.

Ok well I am pre-op with surgery next week so I am not sure my opinion counts yet.   I did the same research and the only thing I couldn't find with VSG is there isn't that much research on the long term results of VSG.  Otherwise I couldn't find any reason not to choose it over bypass.

My mom had bypass about 5 years ago and she has gained some back so I know that is a risk I am just going to have to take with VSG.

I'm doing good with mine. I'm 10 months out and have lost 130 pounds. Went from a tight 26 to a 14. :)
