not sure what the laws are in PA, but, couldn't you just go get the pups while he's at work or something?
A friend of mine did that when she was having the issues that led to her divorce...

he caved in an gave them to me.... said he couldnt take care of them.. so i have them now... and i went down to court house to get a hearing for spouse support.. and lawyers sent out the divorce papers, so it will be 90 days from now if he agrees to terms... an signs....  an as far as my things that are still in house..... legally i can go get anything i want but....... hes always home hes a retired disabled vietnam veteran.. i'd rather not deal with the drama he says he will give me anything i want once im in my own place...i dont know how long it will take... for now im at my brothers... indefinitly... i have an appt with social secruity for disability, for now... till i get recovered from up coming surgeries... i want to thank everyone on this board for being so supportive to me over the last couple yrs.. an helping me everytime i fall down u are always here to pick me up... 
and for as much as u all say i encourage, im infinitly encouraged by everyone here... you're all my heros.... huggles
