Looking for information
Hi!
I'm new here in the forum and kinda lost. But I think this is the best option to ask my question.
I live in Puerto Rico and after been in the process of evaluation and support group and everything for 1 1/2 years now they told me that they won't be making the surgery with Medicare. Nobody in PR is using Medicare for bariatric surgery, so my option now is to move to USA. I have live in USA for years so that's not a problem for me. My problem is finding a doctor that makes the surgery with Medicare and a place to live near the hospital or something like that.
May be I'm asking too much... I feel lost and would like to find some information that I can start with. I'm the kind of person that I guess, you have to numerate all the steps so I can follow them.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you saying that you are currently on Medicare? And, if so, that you can't find a WLS in Puerto Rico that accepts Medicare for surgery?
If that is the case, why couldn't you just travel back to the states for surgery? You don't necessarily have to permanently move, right?
Another thing that isn't clear from your post is which WLS you want. There are different kinds: DS, VSG, RNY, lap band, etc.

Yes, I have been in Medicare for disability since 1998. Here in Puerto Rico none of the bariatric surgeons are affiliated to Medicare. So they won't make the surgery with Medicare. I was thinking in getting the Band but because of my Lupus and 'cause I'm a sweet eater, the band is not appropriate for me and now I'm thinking the RNY is the best for me.
I would move to the states without thinking it twice, but with so much information of drs, centers and such I'm not sure where to start. I could travel for the seminars and then for the surgery and stay for a couple of months or so. But where to start? Which states has lower living costs, housings near the hospital... Here is where I get lost!
