Breast Reductions

Just wanted to share:

One thing I learned at the OH Conference that I thought some folks here might appreciate was that if you have super large breasts, you should go for the reduction surgery when you're still big.

Two of the doctors said insurance is more likely to cover the cost if they're still big (you don't have to be at goal or stabilized). If the girls are keeping you from exercising or causing you pain, putting divots in your shoulder, etc. you might want to look into it.

If you get closer to goal and you're all deflated, insurance is not going to cover the cost.

It really doesn't pertain to me, but I know that some folks here are well endowed.

That's great information!  Thanks so much!  I've lost 151 lbs but I just fit into a 36H bra.
The girls lost a LOT of fatty tissue, but the excess skin is still filling out the cups!

Wow, that's really interesting.  I started at DD and just ordered some C's.  I've heard the term "boobie origami" and that's exactly what it's like for me.  I doubt I'll get a reduction, but I'll definitely want a lift down the road.  Right now they hang as low as where my belly button should be and my belly button hangs as low as where my crotch should be! LOL

I started out at DD.  I thought they were C, one nitwit at Lane Bryant measured and told me they were B. The professional at Dillards measured and LOOKED and told me D. Mine aren't hanging super low (yet). However, my belly button is about where my crotch should be.

I'm scheduled for breast reduction on June 10th.  My insurance company approved me in record time (consult 4 weeks ago, office finished submitting 3 business days later and the next morning at 8 a.m. I got a phone call at home from my insurance company saying I was approved).  This was a record for the surgeon-I had to call the office and they checked on line and they couldn't believe it.

When I was at my heaviest, I ordered bras from Roamans in like a 56 H or I and none of them really fit right because the left is at least a cup size bigger than the right.  I have since gone down to a 44 DDD on the right side and a G on the left side (it spills out more).  I'm about 40 pounds from my personal goal.  My surgeon told me that if I didn't lose anything in my one year follow up I was considered a success.  I have lost 25 pounds since last July (I think it has redistributed a lot because I can wear between a 16-18 in most things even with the panni that flaps as far as pants.  Dresses are about the same size.

I considered getting the reduction when I was about 100 pounds lighter than my heaviest but I had a questionable mammogram which required me to come back after 6 months which was 5 years ago.  I obviously didn't do anything about it at the time and ironically I went to the same plastic surgeon that that mammogram technician had for herself (he also received another patient recommendation and 2 nurse recommendations).

I thought I had to wait until goal but the plastic surgeon told me this was the right time for me because I am much healthier now than I would have been 5 years ago.  I have the back pain, neck pain, 3 sports bras to exercise, divots in my shoulders, migranes, you name it.  Everything he asked me I said yes to.

When I read my insurance policy coverage document, I had to search through it (all 136 pages of it) and they distinguished reconstructive from cosmetic.  They mentioned some things like removal of tattoos but they have a criteria too that they follow as far as pendolous (I don't know if I spelled this right).  At least this is what I found.

I'm a little nervous because it is still surgery and I have to give up Zumba for a few weeks but I know I will be able to exercise a lot better after this.   I have talked to a lot of people and those who have had it and those who know people said it went easy.  Recovery time is fairly short and if you follow the instructions, you can minimize scarring.

Sylvie I had it done long ago... if you have surgery questions, let me know... I think the procedure is even better now than it was then (I had it done uh.... 18 years ago). I think it will be wonderful for you!
