Endoscopy/Stomach Biopsy

I think the primary purpose is to see if you have any abnormalities in you esophogus and/or stomach would need to be addressed before having surgery.  Ulcers, that kind of stuff.

Thank god the IV drugs they gave me knocked me out.  The horror stories here are scary!!

i believe they also check for hpylori, that if you have it they will treat it prior to surgery because once the stomach is blocked off by the surgery it is very difficult to cure.

I never thought about possible abnormalities or that h-pylori mess... I had the lovely h-pylori breath test at my consult - but they failed to tell me that if I was on anti-biotics [or had been recently] that due to the abx,  I would wind up with inaccurate test results... And I lived [litterally] on antibiotics from about October through January...
