How long did you lose weight post-op
I'm curious as to how long others have lost are have been losing weight post-op. I'd also love to know surgery type when you post.
Some element of panic set in for me last week when I saw a support group member who started the journey at over 600 pounds and has "only" lost about 200 at a year post-op. He lost more than I did pre-op and has only lost maybe 20 pounds since 6 months out. I have had others say they stopped at 6 months out too, but they have been those who have started smaller than those on this board. I haven't even gotten my BMI under 50 yet, so I hope I am not close to the end of the surgical benefit.

I am 17 months out. I'm still losing. I started at 597 was 540 day of surgery. The weight loss continues...and being that you are only 4 months out you have quite a way to go.
I figured in the beginning it would take me at least two years to get to 200lb and I think I'm on track to meet that goal. The surgery remains a benefit, as long as you continue to use it as a tool. Make sure you're getting in all your water protein and supplements...exercise and you will continue to lose.
Good luck to you!

I had surgery in November of 2007 (lap RNY) and have lost a total of 174 pounds and am still losing. I have exercised since 3 weeks post op and the journey has been a bit frustrating, but I am still losing and that's all I care. Year one, I lost 130 pounds, year two, 22 pounds. I'm half-way through year three and I've lost another 22 pounds (16 of it from extended abdominoplasty and thunder-thigh lipo).
It's not easy. You've got to know what you are eating and what calories you are expending. If there is anyone out there who's had this surgery and think it's the magic pill (or who's looking into the surgery), you are delusional. You've got to manage your meals and exercise getting your heart rate to 70% of your max at least 3-4 days a week.
I would go for months and not lose weight and then bam! Drop 5-7 pounds. So I just go with the flow. I know my body is getting back at me for all the years that I tormented my metabolism so...like I said...I just go with the flow!
