My friends, I am a dumper!

Ok, so I am at just over 5 months out and have lost 78 lbs.  I know there are some things I do that I shouldn't, eating "bites" of Easter candy with my kids, eating "a few chips" every once in a while, etc.   A few weeks ago I accidentally had a Starbucks drink with 23 grams of sugar.  It was pure accident on my part as I ordered it sugar fee and didn't realize it had a frap mix with all that sugar until I looked it up and called customer service.  (Some of you read the post and will remember the frap mishap of 2010)  :)

Anyway, I was kind of upset because I didn't dump from that drink.  I got a headache but that was about it.  I admit that it has led me to make bad decisions about stuff because I think, this has less carbs than the frappicino I had.

ANYWAY - today is Professional Admin's day.  We took our admin out to lunch to of all places, the chinese buffett.  I didn't want to go because I knew I would have limited choices and would not make the best decisions.  I tried to limit myself to chicken without any kind of sauce - but I caved in and had 2 pieces of General TSO's, 4 pieces of sweet and sour, no sauce and I peeled off the breading, a 1/2 of a crab quiche thingy (I used to eat about 4 of them before), 2 pieces of fresh pineapple, Thai style chicken...not great but was about the best I could do.  WHY OH WHY did I get the ice cream????  I got about 3 TBS of ice cream in a cup and ate it all.

20 minutes later I was starting to sweat, felt like I was going to yak, and got a horrible headache!  Felt like I was going to fall over from exhaustion!  I am a dumper!!!!!

I know it might be silly to be excited about this, however this was JUST what I needed to help me get back on track and quit the carbs!  I am feeling much better now and am so thankful for my RNY!  I actually walked my son to school this morning and took the long way home for more excercise!  My son (8 years old) hugged me yesterday and said "I can almost hug you all the way around".  it was very cute and his way of saying he notices I am losing weight.

Anyway, this is the first time I have dumped and is a great reminder about what I should be eating and how bad other stuff is for me.

Thanks for reading!

So, is dumping as bad as so many people says it is?
Carnie Wilson, in her book, described it as being awful.

What's the deal with Carnie Wilson?  I thought she had RNY, but now she's got a TV program named 'Unstapled'.  Did she reverse it?  Why?  Just curious?  Thanks!  connie

In her book "I'm still hungry she didn't mention anything like that.

I had to go on antibiotics - and my pharmacist gave me the liquid form - a super sweet strawberry flavor.  About 10-15 min later, I got this pounding headache and became short of breath.  I was terrified I had a leak or something.  My heart started racing, I got tunnel vision.  I went and sat on the bed and just breathed real slowly until my husband got home.  When he got home, he came up and saw me sitting on the bed, and I just told him I felt like I was going to faint.  He helped me lay down and I was out.  For 2 hours.  When I woke up, I thought about it - and I called the pharmacy to see if there was sugar in the flavoring.  Sure enough, there was.  Im so glad I found out now rather than in 3 months, driving down the road or at work or something.

I will say that it is a feeling I don't want to have again and I am glad it passed in about 30 minutes.

I think I had a light episode because I only had the headache, feeling like I was going to throw up and cold sweats, oh, and being really tired.  Apparently some people get rapid heartbeat and diarrhea...

On a scale of 1 to 10 in sickness, it was a 3 for me.  But enough to remind me that I need to make better choices.

I guess it is a good deterrent, but I am deathly afraid of it. I'm glad to hear the negative reinforcements are working for you!

I'm glad it helped you get on track and focused!  We have such close surgery dates, so it's really cool to hear about your experiences :)

I've found I don't dump on small amounts of sugar if I eat it alone (I haven't tested candy or large amounts), but if I have a meal and THEN have a little bit of sugar, it's like holy hell breaks loose in my gut.  Even if the second item I eat is just sugar alcohols.  So weird how our bodies work, isn't it???
