Hello my name is Vickie.  I am new on the forum.  My question does every insurance or medical card(whatever you have) wanted your BMI 40 or around there?

I don't understand your question.

My insurance's requirement was a 40 BMI or 35 with comorbidities to have surgery.

I've heard of people having to lose a certain amount of weight preop, but I've never heard of having to get down to 40 (this is the BMI>50 board, so everyone here would have to lose to get down to 40).

I just got under 40 a few months ago. That would have been about 130 pounds for me. Much more for some people.

If you are under BMI of 40, you might want to take a look at the Main Board or the Lightweights board.

Best of luck.

Right now my BMI is around 49-50. So you can still have the surgery if ur BMI is at 50 or around there then?

I have a BMI above 50 and I had no problems with insurance.  Over 50 you don't need commorbidities most of the time, 40 you need some commorbidities.

really depends on your program, your insurance.  I would just give them a call.

With your BMI being 49 or 50 you should not have to worry about having any co morbidities.. most insurances cover the surgery for people with a BMI of 35 if they DO have co morbidities , but if you BMI is 40 or over then you dont have to have co-morbidities.. I never hear too much varience from that from others on OH..

If you have to loose weight for the insurance, just make sure you do not loose enough to be under 40 BMI...

Good Luck to you..

huggs..
