Thanks! ... and life-changing thoughts.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts about my "Milestones" of 100 gone, and moving into Twoterville! I am so grateful.
Life has a way of changing. I have always felt "under-employed" - held back because of my weight. I know I interview well, I'm smart, educated, and have lots of experience - - but stayed in the job for 10 years because it was here! I like my work, my co-workers, and my boss - I know I am lucky. But... need to move on. I applied for a job and got an interview last week. Talked to them today, and I was asked to interview again next week. YAY! Made it through. Even if I don't get the job, (I'm not counting on it - no idea who I'm up against), being asked is great. I know if I was my former nearly 400 pound self, that my weight would be held against me. At 298, I look more "normal" - you all know what I mean. If this one doesn't pan out, there will be another! That much, I know!
Have a great day, my BMI > 50 friends!

Okay, you did it! You've inspired me. I'm going to apply for a job I saw yesterday. I'm working on 19 years at my current place of employment. I'm so miserable it is time to move on. The miserable is starting to outweigh the leave I accrue.
Thanks.
Best of luck!!

Mary,
I wish you all the best with the 2nd interview.. If this job is meant to be then you will get it.. If not then that just means God has better plans for you.. I am so glad to hear that you are not just going to stay settled into a job that you are not truly pleased with..The need to have a job that we are suitable for is greater than the need to have one we are just comfortable in..
Yes we all have had judgments placed on us because of our weight and looks.. after all we are all lazy, cant do anything, are so slow and we are slobs and have no self control and I guess we are stupid too .. maybe too much fat on the brain huh.. I am so angry most of the time that we get placed into that category just by looks.. It is really sad... Like you say now that you look more normal maybe you will have a chance.. and maybe you will.. but to me I am not sure who sets the range for normal looks.... I think you look great and I am sure you did at nearly 400lb too.. but NOW you have the self confidence you need.. so go for it..
huggs..

Thank you for your thoughts, Teresa. I do have to correct one thing, though. I have always had good self esteem and confidence. That is something I have been blessed with. I never lacked judgement in my abilities or any of that, thanks to family, therapy, etc. I KNEW I could do things - and I did much in my career from training and public speaking, to traveling around the country. I did this when my weight approached 400 all the time. But, I know there are many people who do hold you back due to appearance - just the way it is. I once interviewed for a big job - - all phone interviews until a local presentation, and I was practically promised the job, and after presenting to the group - was not hired. Hmmmmm
All that being said, I feel like I have a fair shake now, thanks to surgery.

Good for you Mary... I am glad your self esteem and confidence have been good all along.. just use your new body now to let others see the you that they could not see before..
So many of us have let the thoughts of others get drummed into our heads so much that we loose our self confidence.. but I too have always been assured I could do anything I set my mind too.. I , like you, had all the support of family and many friends who always reminded me of my talents. That helped me to not loose the confidence in myself..
Discrimination of any kind is wrong but it happens everyday.. Now you have a chance to show them who you are and not be judged by them for an appearence.
Good Luck to you on the interview.. I am sure you will do great..

I know what you mean Mary, and I'm so happy for you. Your horizons are opening up right before you. People don't talk much about obesity discrimination in our culture. I think it's because it's so acceptable. It's expected that everyone will look down their noses at people who are the size we on this board once were. One poster referred to it as being 'circus fat' some time back. And I can relate to that. Even though you and I are both just now getting to the weight so many of the lightweights are when they have surgery, still, it's so much improved over where we've come from. I mean, I'm still a big girl. A very big girl at 240 pounds, but I get much different reactions from people now, than I did at 367 pounds. MUCH different. Hugs and congratulations! connie
