Chicago Trip Report #2
Yesterday morning I decided I needed to get my blood pumping. I was already in the shower, so putting on my workout clothes so I could get nasty and take another shower was not workable. However, I decided to do my own stairmaster.
I walked down six flights of stairs to the first floor . Then I turned around and climbed the eight flights of stairs to the ninth floor. Then I went back down to the seventh floor where my room is.
AND I DIDN'T HAVE A HEART ATTACK! I was breathing hard, but recovered pretty quickly. I rested maybe 10 seconds for the whole trip. Preop, I would have been done just taking the stairs down two flights.
We've been walking a lot. It got real cold last night, so I'm not sure we'll get much walking in today.
Eats:
Had pork schnitzel, one pierogi and some green beans for my German dinner the other night. I ate one bite of the mashed potatoes and NO BREAD. It wasn't a model post op dinner, but I coulda done worse.
Sliced turkey for lunch today -- no problem there. I had a little salad as well and a bite of whole wheat roll.
I did succumb to a brownie. I pushed the envelope almost to the limit of my dumping - felt a little oogy.
Last night we had sushi. I ate a bunch of edamame before the rolls came out. I think I had five pieces of roll (they were kind of small) and one thin piece of sweet potato tempura. Then just a taste of the desserts my two dining companions had.
We're planning on steak tonight, so I can probably do better with the protein.
Tomorrow I meet up with relatives -- this will be hard. I can't really remember how they eat, I haven't seen them in 20 years. But it could be problematic.
If I don't post, have a good weekend!!

One food makes you larger, and one food makes you small...

WAY TO GO.... You are amazing.. on vacation and climbing stairs.. I am so proud of you... most people would just say I'll catch up when I get home.. and to be there and trying to be conscience of what you eat too... I dont think you are doing that bad at all... a little taste of this or that won't hurt.. you ARE on vacation after all and its not like you are going to continue that trend at home.. as far as meeting with the relatives I am sure you will do fine.. no matter what the food is it will be ok... all things in moderation can be the theme to go by.. no matter what is is just eat a little bit and go for the good stuff if there is any.. if not oh well .. it is just one day.. just dont overdo..
I am so happ for you for the experience of fitting three in the taxi.. two used to be squished for me.. but three ..no way.. it would never happen.. but you are there... whooo hooo....
Enjoy all those wow moments you are having.. treasure them.. climbing all those stairs was a great one.. the plane and the taxi were others.... I am sure there are a lot more of them..
Have fun and relax.. you are doing great...

"Did you tell her I've been walking my a$$ off?" was Jane's reply when I read your post.
Seriously, I think she's done four museum/touristy things that required lots of walking. Google has given her bad directions several times. And she was damaged when she got here from your 6 mile hike (way to go, by the way!).
