Vision Changes?

 Hi All,

This might seem like a totally random and stupid question, but have any of you experienced changes in your vision as a result of losing weight after WLS?

The reason I ask is that I have diabetes. It's one of my co-morbidities. It has caused changes in my vision, and my vision has gotten worse over the last year or so
I was thinking about looking into getting contacts when my mom mentioned that I may want to wait on it. She seems to think that as I lose weight, my diabetes will improve and so will my vision.

Any experience with this?

Yes ... if you can wait, I would .... I also am diabetic, but since loosing the 100lbs I am no longer on any diabetic medication and now my vision has improve greatly.. the glasses I was wearing were not working anymore.. I could not read anything far or near.. I was concerned my eyes were getting worse.. but as a chance I took out a pair of glasses I had before that was not a strong as the current ones and I can see fine in them.. so I had a great improvement.. I know they are not just perfect but are working well enough for now.. I plan to go get new ones when they run thier summer special for 2 pair for $129.00 for bifocals.. I am hoping that will good for a year.. I should be close enough to goal by then. I hope.. lol...

Listen to mom.. she is right..

huggs...

I've had the opposite problem - didn't wear glasses pre-op, but I find my vision now getting blurry on occasion.  Been reaching whether it's associated with a vitamin deficiency.  It seems to be better now, but the first few months post op it wasn't great.

Please make sure you're taking your vitamins! a deficiency in vitamin a can really harm your vision. I got in trouble for not taking my vitamins at first and my dr sent me to the eye dr to make sure i didn't have any retinal ulcers. get an eye exam, preferably from a dr with wls experience and make sure that you are getting enough vitamin a.

we certainly do not want to exchange one set of problems for another!

No worries, I've always been diligent about them.  I'm wondering if it's a deficiency despite taking everything I'm supposed to.  Sometimes people get put on extra of certain supplements.  I'll find out in May when I get my labwork.  :)

Yes, my dr put me on an additional multivitamin you get at the pharmacy ADEKs, after taking that with my 2 multivitamins, calcium b12 and b1 my labs improved greatly.
