Yogurt Question

Ok, here is my question. I have been looking at yogurt. The Yoplait light fat free yogurt has 15g of sugar. My question is this, is it 15g of Aspartame? The container says that it is sweetened with Aspartame and other sweetner. New to this and I don't know if this thing is loaded with regular sugar or the kind that I can have (Aspartame).  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Hi there!

Hmm... not quite sure the answer to your question.  But, I did want to encourage you to try out Greek Yogurt + sf flavorings, if you haven't already.  It's a million times better than regular yogurt, in my opinion.

Get the 0% plain fat greek yogurt (and check to label - if it says "vanilla" or other flavors, you're probably getting a version loaded with sugars).  Then, add powdered sugar free pudding mix, and/or sugar free Da Vinci / Torani syrups, and/or fresh fruit.  The options are endless.

It's a perfect substitute for sour cream (I don't even buy sour cream anymore).  And when I want a sweet treat, I like being able to mix it up with anything I want.  When I add the sugar free cheesecake powdered pudding mix and some dried fruit, it tastes like a fruity and soft cheesecake filling without the crust.  YUHM.

Anyway, I hope you find the answer to your question!

15 g of aspartame would be realllly sweet.

The 15 g is a combination of lactose (milk sugar) and probably real sugar from the fruit (at a minimum). They may add more sugar to make it taste better.

Some RNYers will dump on more than 5 g of sugar. Some are lactose intolerant. Tread carefully if you are postop.

The best yogurt for postop RNYers is greek yogurt because it's loaded with protein. You can mix in no sugar syrups to sweeten and flavor it up.

Man, I was just thinking today that a year or two ago you could find low-carb and sugar-free yogurt and now - poof - can't find them anywhere. Only low or no fat which I could care less about.

I went to Trader Joe's and bought some Greek yogurt...Pomegranate, Blueberry, and Honey....all had sugar in them though! Plus, I onlyl iked the Pomegranate (6 grams of sugar though). I can't find sugar free yogurt anywhere! Maybe I should try the plain Greek yogurt and add some of the sugar free syrups as suggested. Maybe the plain will be sugar free...? Now I am rambling.....lol

FYI - 1/2 c. 0% fage greek yogurt (plain) has 60 cal, 4.5g sugar, 10g protein.  The package says a serving is 1 full cup, so if you do that, it's 120 cal, 9g sugar, and 20g protein.

Mmm... pomegranate yogurt sounds so delicious!

I don't know if you have a Kroger in your area..but they have CarbSmart yogurt - the Kroger brand and it only has 4 total carbs and 12 grams of protein.  Comes in all kinds of flavors.  It is very good.

There is Dannon Light and Fit carb and sugar control

But I like Chobani 0% greek yogurt better.   The plain has 7 g of sugar and 18 g of protein.  I mix in Polaner Sugar Free with Fiber jelly.  You can get coupons on the Chobani website.
