Hi everyone! I've basically just found OH and am overwhelmed with all the warm support I see and all the great info and advice. Just wanted to introduce myself and join the fun. I've got my surgery date set for March 22 and I'm wandering around in a daze totally obsessed with what the future will hold. My current bmi is 60+ and I've been restricted in participating in normal life things just because of my size. I'm hoping the VSG will help me succeed -- like probably most everyone here I've tried all sorts of diets with mixed success and usually regained everything eventually plus an added bonus 30 or 40 pounds. I feel so determined to get off the yo-yo treadmill and start living a healthier life. I'm currently in the pre-op liquid diet and am sometimes near delirious with hunger but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and so far I've been able to grit my teeth and hang in there, knowing it's for the best even if I'd love a piece of chocolate about now :)  Anyway, I've run on enough for now, happy weekend everyone.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

The pre-op diet gets easier after about three days. Make sure you're getting protein, that will keep you "full" longer.

Welcome to BMI over 50!

I had a VSG on October 20th.  Still have very little hunger and am satisfied on about 1-1/2 cups of food for a meal.  I am already much  more active than I have been in the last 10 years.  Keeps getting better and better.  If you are doing protein shakes and want "chocolate", the Atkins milk chocolate shake has 15 g of protein and only 1 net carb and can be bought at Wal-Mart among other places.  Hang in there.  It is soooooooo worth it.

Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.

Welcome Janice..

I am glad you found OH.. it is a great support site and I feel this is the best forum on here... especially for us who started with higher BMI's (I was at 63.3)  because we can all relate on here to the limitations we had.. the people are wonderful here. very kind and supportive and really care about each other.. one of the things you will need the most through out your journey is support.. and it is here for you.. all you have to do is sign in and start typing and we will be here to help in any way we can. Some of us are new but some of us  old timers with years of experience and can really answer a lot of questions..

Congrats on your surgery date.. hang in there on the liquids.. it is hard at first but it does get easier as you go.. just keep the goal in mind and it will be a lot easier.. head hunger can be bad now.. I mute any and all food commercials and try to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible..  try to get in a lot of protein because that helps with the hunger and keeps you from loosing muscle.

Keep us informed how things are going.  Looking foward to following you in your journey.

Huggs.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome,
I too am enjoying my second week of the liquid diet, my surgery is 3/15. Everyone is right about the hunger, it subsides and I am now forcing myself to take in what is required!
I hope you will tune in often and keep us all up to date, we get stronger the more we share and lean on each other!
Best of luck!!!
