Disneyland NSV!

We took my darling now 4-year-old kiddle to Disneyland for three days. I SURVIVED.

The hardest part for me was drinking enough water. I know I got nowhere near enough. They did have the Minute Maid Light Lemonade at several places.

I did okay with the walking until we were walking to the car on day three. I developed a blister just under my toes on my left foot. I also have a sore muscle in my left thigh (I soooo miss ibuprofen!).

Food: I split entrees with my WLS sis, where we could. That worked out okay. It was hard to find someplace to eat breakfast that wasn't a $35 buffet. I brought some greek yogurt and cheese sticks -- I ate those first thing in the morning before everyone was ready. I did eat some bad stuff -- cinnamon roll, dark chocolate covered strawberry, and the most unremarkable ice cream sandwich. The strawberry was worth it. We had dinner with the Disney princesses and the cioppino was pretty high in protein, although the seafood was a little overcooked.

Rides: Well, I was with a 4-year-old. At California Adventure, we went on a twirl around in the air ride for little kids that I didn't freak out about. But I did the Matterhorn at this weight in 2002, so I knew I could handle it if I wanted to.

I find I have less patience for waiting in line, but that may be my age. We got into Pirates of the Carribean (sp)  and the Haunted Mansion (kid was with her Papa outside) very quickly. Waiting to see Tinkerbell and the Princess Fun Faire were painful. But those were for kiddle.

The best part -- I know there is NO WAY I could have handled this at my high weight. We would've had to rent one of those electric carts. And I would have missed so much.

Best experience: we had just thrown some pennies into Snow White's wishing well and Wendy from Peter Pan walked up and started talking to my daughter. Kiddle didn't know who she was, but it was sweet. Oh, Cruella DeVille signed kiddle's book and told her to have a perfectly horrid birthday.

Wow - you had a rockin' three days!     And making such memories - how much better will these memories be than humiliation for what you couldn't do in the past!   HUGE nsv!!  I'm so happy for you and it sounds like you did way more than survive - you rocked it!!!

Oh Patti, I'm so glad you had a good time!   I'm really impressed by all of the great choices you've made while there.  A treat here and there is doable... with all the walking you're doing and not pigging out on regular meals, I think you'll be just fine.

We did Disney Dec. 2007, just me and my then-8year old.  I was floating around 360 lbs then.  And truthfully, I was miserable.  I tried to put on a good show, but god I was exhausted.  My legs were swollen.  I was hot b/c I wouldn't wear regular shorts and t-shirts.  I didn't make good food choices, so I only made matters worse by being swollen from salt and treats.

I did manage to fit on all of the rides (no idea how in the hell I did... must be because I'm tall) and we rode pretty much everything.  The only one that scared me was Soarin at Epcot... the ride started and I still hadn't finagled my seatbelt on!  Ack!  But it was a great ride once that got fixed.

Part of me wants to go back someday just to see what it's like without all those things nagging at me.

Glad to hear that you had a great time and did all that walking!!

I've been avoiding amusement parks for years for fear of not fitting- I can't wait for this summer to start hitting them up.

Roller-coasters...

Thanks for the post!!

During my last big weight loss effort (2002ish), thrilled after fitting and enjoying the Matterhorn at Disneyland, I purchased a season pass to Magic Mountain. It's about an hour from my house and the season pass was only a little more than a one day ticket.

The first day I went I marched in, went to the first roller coaster on the right called Goliath. I rode it and OH MY GAWD! The motion sickness was awful. It was at least a day or two before I was right again. (My brother later told me that Goliath had the highest rate of G's for a roller coaster in the country at that time.)

I wonder if having a different stomach would make a difference with the motion sickness? I never had a problem with motion sickness until I was in my 30s.

I did use the pass one more time -- I rode Colossus. It was a big deal ride when I was 13. My sister went with me and she got motion sickness.

HOWEVER, these were motion sickness issues. Not size issues. Even before I got on any of these rides, I figured I'd be okay. Because I saw several 300+ pound guys getting off the rides.

I actually haven't been to any parks since surgery but have walked and walked and walked on our vacations.  I did do parasailing in Key West (video on my Facebook page - kathsum) and we had a blast there.

It is amazing how much food is considered a portion in restaurants.  I am still amazed!

Good for you on your trip and isn't life awesome now!?

I am so happy for you.. it sounds like you really had a great time.. and your daughter too.. and you survived very well.. I am proud of you..

I remember going to an amusement park in 1993.. we went to Six Flags over Mid America in St. Louis.. I needed to get a drive cart but they had rented them all out. so I had to get a wheel chair.. my poor husband had to push me through the park.. I swear and so does he that it is all up hill... lol... I felt so bad that he had to push me that I had a horrible time.. there were only a very few rides I could even think of fitting on and my husband gets sick on them so my poor daughter had to ride on most of them alone.. she was 13 then and plenty old enough,  but what fun is it to ride alone.. the fun is in sharing the experience.. I never felt like such a burden in my life as I did that day.. I told myself that one day I would loose all this weight and go back to the park and ride all those rides with my daughter..  6 years ago for our 25th wedding anniversary we went to Disney World and took my daughter and my mother.. had I lost the weight...NO .. I had actually gained.. but at least I was able to get a drive cart.. we didnt even bother to get tickets to the amusement side..we only got tickets to Epcot Center.. how sad for my daughter again..  but we made it up to her by going to swim with the dolphins and paying for her a backstage pass to help with the animals.. well here we are today and I am getting the weight off but my daughter is now 30.. and she has a 1 year old of her own.. so I am making myself a promise that I am going to take him to an amusement park and ride all the rides with him.. I have time to get the rest of my weight off as he is a litle young yet.. but that is a major goal for me now.. maybe my daughter will go too and her and I can ride the rides together with him..

I know that one of your goals was to take your daughter to Disneyland.. I am so happy for you that you have met that goal and did great.. I am doing the happy dance for you..

huggs..

That sounds great! We went when my oldest was 3 and it was a struggle to get into some rides. We often go to Holiday World in Indiana and I can't ride most of the rides there. Going to Disney is a goal of mine for next year. My boy will be 7 and girl will be 3. Sounds like a perfect time. Actually, if I can get close to my goal weight before next year, I might consider doing the land and sea package (combo of Disney and Disney cruise).
