I have to lose weight help

Hi all.  I have about 50 or so pounds that I have to lose to get my bmi where the doctor wants it to be.  I have been trying to lose weight for so long that I get discouraged but I still plug away.  I am only losing about a couple pounds a month and I fee like a person my weight shouldn't have such a hard time dropping 50 pounds.  I excerise 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes on the eliptical machine and I also workout with kettle bells.

My doctor is so supportive and tells me I will get there and he will gladly do the surgery when my bmi is where it needs to be.

My nutrition is very healthy.  I document calories and stay right at 1100 to 1200 calories daily.  What do you guys suggest that I do to lose the 50 pounds?

Would going on the preop diet help me shed some weight fast?  I'd like to have surgery sometime soon.  My twin sister just had surgery and she is looking really great.  I'm happy for her but I also want it to "ME" as well.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

First off- what BMI are you at and where does your doc want you to be?

Either way I would say, yes do the pre-op diet, you might as well get used to how you're going to be eating for the rest of your life.

Also I recommend that you change up your workout routine. Are you at a gym with different kinds of equipment you can use (bike, treadmill, weight machines)? If so try them, if not- get out and walk or find other activities that you can do.

Good Luck and keep us in the loop...

Lower you salt intake.. you would be surprised how much salt we consume.. I went on a pre op diet for 9 months and I lost 67 lbs.. low low salt.. no salt at all out of a shaker.. use Mrs Dash table blend.. it is good.. only sodium should be in foods .. use no salt added vegetables with less than 50mg sodium.. I tried to not eat anything over 100mg sodium.. and that was stretching it.. I cut my sugar intake to nil.. stayed with less than 5g of sugar in anything I ate.. I ate chicken and turkey instead of red meat.. only ate 6oz meat a day.. 2 servings of raw fruit and 4 servings of vegs. very low low carbs.. no breads or pasta or white potatos or rice.. brown rice is ok.. if you just have to have bread there is a sugar free wheat bread out there called Healthy life.. or Ezekiel Bread.  ..  no soda not even diet soda.. only water or crystal light .. no caffeine because it can stimulate hunger .. decaf coffee or tea ok.. herbal tea is naturally no caffeine .... no sweets.. eat sugar free jello or sugar free Popsicles for treats.. ... this works  but you have to stick to it.. continue the workout routine and try to change what you do each week.. do not let your body get used to a routine and expect that as normal..
I had a BMI of 63 and I got my BMI just below 50 for the surgery.. but I will tell you this.. there are many doctors that do surgery on high BMI patients.. you might want to consider looking into other doctors and their requirements.. I had to meet insurance requirement not the surgeons.. yes he wanted me to try to lower the BMI but never told me he would not do ti until I got to a certain BMI.. so you might want to think about that..
Good Luck to you.. I hope the diet info helps..

huggs..

I want to thank everyone for their replies.  I am going to buy the stuff to do the pre op diet to shed those 50 pounds so I can have surgery.  I just have to be determined to do it and stick with it.  I CAN and WILL do this.  I think I'm going to set mini goals for myself as well and schedule an appointment with my primary doctor and get the blood work done to see that everything is okay and I don't have some sort of medical problem that is causing me not to lose weight.

I know the last time I had blood work done, everything was okay.  I was on the verge of high blood pressure but my doctor stated if I lost weight I wouldn't have a blood pressure problem.  The only other comorbity I have is Lymphedema.  I have it in my right leg.  I've dealt with it for 8 years or so and I'm "used" to it now.  It's on the mild side considering the pictures and stories I've seen here.

I am going to look into a different surgeon as well.  My surgeon is Roger De Le Torre and he is an amazing surgeon.  It's not him that wants my bmi down it's the office doctor who does.  My insurance will only cover gastric bypass, nothing else.

I know I need to work hard and get surgery scheduled for myself bc I don't know how much longer I can stand staying at my current job.  I work as a 911 Operator and I'm just not paid enough.  I'm simply staying because I know the insurance will cover weight loss surgery.

My sister had surgery on Feb 8th and she is doing fantasic.  She is my identical twin sister and I'm so happy for her but at the same time I am sad.

I know I will get there.  Thanks agin for everyone's support.

I had to to lose 80 pounds before my surgery.  I thought if would be impossible.  But, I learned it can be done. With a lot of hard work. All I can say is exercise, exercise , exercise.  You just have to do. Sometime it just easier to get it over with.  At least an hour every day. Do not wait til the end of the day. You just have to make a promise to your self and keep it.  That does not mean you will never miss a day. But, You have to stay true to your self.  I still have 15 pounds to lose before my surgery. But. I finally have a month schedule for my surgery and I never thought that would happen.  It,s a slow process.

If you can do it, follow the post op diet for a while. Start with the soft/mushy foods instead of all liquids if you don't believe you can do a liquid diet for more than a week without going crazy.

I'd also suggest if possible, to look into other surgeons that operate on those with higher BMI's. It might be easier to find a new surgeon that will do surgery with your BMI as it is now than to try to lose 50 pounds. Best wishes to you!

I did pretty good pre-surgery on replacing breakfast and lunch with an unjury milk or water and ice and frozen fruit shake for breakfast and dinner.  The best was chocolate unjury and frozen morello cherries and/or vanilla unjury with frozen mango.  Then at lunch I would have 3 cups of salad greens, a couple of snap peas, 3 ozs of chicken, one cut up low fat mozzerella cheese stick and just one tbsp of low fat dressing (helps if you toss the salad before sitting down to eat i****ering down the dressing a little helps spread it around too!).  I really liked the cilantro and lime one from Trader Joes near the salads in the cold case.  I would take a whole hour to eat my lunch.  Then, I would pretty much go to bed shortly after the dinner shake so I wouldn't eat again until morning.

The unjury protein powder was the best I found and really kept hunger in check.  I just made this a routine.  I bought bagged already prepared fajita chicken and this was easy to measure out and pack for lunches, etc.

Good Luck!  You can do this!  Love & Hugs,
