My BMI is 58 and i have only one significant health issue. PCOS.

I'm a little worried because all of my testing is coming back normal. I don't have high blood pressure, thyroid problems, diabetes, high cholesterol or anything like that. Not that i want too, but I'm afraid its going to effect my chances of an insurance approval. I'm seeing a lap band doctor who has suggested the RNY for me. After doing my research i have decided to go with the RNY. I have my pulmonary and psychology testing done in 2 weeks. I'm half way there but im so afraid that if there is nothing wrong which there obviously is...i won't get an approval. I did just find out i have PCOS and that weight loss can help that alot. I have severe pain due to PCOS.

I believe a BMI of 58 is considered a health issue!   PCOS, too.   Don't worry about it, just go through the process and do what you need to get through it.

Good luck!

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY!  Working on the next 25.  Then I'll tackle more...

Hun.. I had a BMI of 63 when I started.. and the doctor told me that anything over 50 was considered a health risk.. your BMI alone would qualify you for the surgery.. even people with a BMI of 40 can get the surgery with no health issues.. only if your BMI is under 40 do you HAVE to have health issues.. so relax, finish the process and I am sure it will all work out.. just follow the requirements the insurance has and you will be fine.

huggs..

I'm with you - no other real health ailments, but my BMI qualified me.

im currently waiting on approval.  the surgeons office submitted my info on friday.  When I submitted all my paperwork the 1st time, the only thing that was missing was the weight history but they would have approved it if the weight history was there.  But outside of that, unless you have a low bmi, only thing needed was a bmi over 40.  I have UHC choice plus.
