I am still trying to lose weight before surgery.  My doctor wants me to lose 80 pounds.  I was at 385 when first went to see him.  I now at 355.  My doctor wants me at 320.  I been try to lose this weigh for 9 month and it is not coming off.  The doctor thinks I am not trying hard enough.  I been exercising 5 days a week.  He will not do the surgery until I,m a 320.   I,m am so tried of waiting.  My highest weight was 395.  I been waiting for almost five years to get this surgery.  I had to fight to get on Medicare. I been going to the medical doctor for year and half.  Been seeing my surgent for 9 months.   But, He will schedule a surgery date.  I see him again to day.  If he make me wait another three monthes I think will go crazy and kill him.  Only Joking.

Hello Doris,

I am in the same fix as you.  I have been going through this process over a year now.  I started off going to one weightloss center, because at the time I only had Medicaid and that center accepted Medicaid.  I then got Medicare soon after I started going to that center.  One of Medicare's requirements is to go on a 6 month diet with your primary physician.  Well I did that and then I find out from that center that the surgeon is leaving that center, so I felt like this was never going to happen for me.  Well I contacted another weight loss center (the one I originally wanted to go to) since I now had Medicare.  I am so glad that I did.  I feel that this center really cares and they are really compationate.

I first went in December before Christmas and I weighed 390.  I went again the next month and I weighed my highest ever, 404 (too much of my mom's cornbread stuffing)!!  I was so dissappointed in myself.  The nutritionist told me that my BMI had to be at 60 before they can schedule surgery for me, so I really got motivated to try and loose the weight.  (It is sooooo hard, but I am trying.)

My next weigh-in was in February, (I was so happy for myself.) I lost 18 pounds.  I never lost that much weight before in a month.  I need to loose another 20 and then they will schedule surgery.  It is so hard, I hope I can do it.  I know I can, I just need to keep the faith.

I know you can do it to, Doris!

What is helping me loose the weight is drinking protein drinks, 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch and eating for supper a 3oz portion of protein (chicken, fish, etc.) veggie, and green salad.  Drink broth whenever you are hungry throughout the day or you can also eat as much jello as you want.  I always have the sugar-free jello.  And drink plenty of water!!!!

I hope this post has helped alittle.  I really need to get motivated again.  I feel myself starting to slip.
