excersise in the beginning
I started with walking but you have back and knees problems, maybe the bike would be better in the beginning. I remember before surgery i went walking on the track one day. I had been away from walking for so long at that time but the time i went before i didnt have any issues. Well this time was different, this had to be my highest weight. I couldn't make one lap, i was in pain and cried back to my car. What ever you do even if it's just a little in the beginning, will count for something, it gets easier. Good luck hun.

I have a bad left knee that'll be operated on once I lose this weight. I have a bionic rt knee. I had my ACL reconstructed 12 years ago. Both knees have arthritis in them. I have bad ankles too from this weight. Before my surgery I did Leslie Sansone's Start Walking 1 mile. I started walking a 1/2 mile a week after my surgery and after a few days increased my walking to a mile. I'm now 2 months out and I'm walking 2 miles/day 5 days a week. I walk outside rain/shine or cold/hot. If you can afford to join a gym with a pool, do so and do water aquatics. If money's tight, walk outside around your neighborhood. Its cheap and all you need is a good pair of shoes.

Thanks again for everyones help :)
I have knee issues, too. In fact, I had a total knee replacement almost a year before my RNY. I do stationary biking, but I didn't start until recently, because it was too hard for me to get up on the bike! I just do 10 minutes or so at a session, and will increase as I go.

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...

Preop, I bought a recumbent stationary bike because just starting to walk again would have aggravated my ankles and feet. It's done me a lot of good and now I'm looking to start something new (so thankful we're getting closer to spring).
On my last big weight loss effort, walking did it for me. I think I get better results from walking. It doesn't even have to be a lot of walking. Just wal****il you think you're half done and turn around and go home. Increase the distance a little more each day. Don't go nuts to begin with or you will hurt yourself. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes.
Best of luck! (And starting now is the best Valentine's Day present you can give yourself!)

Hello,
I am almost at the same point, I am hoping for April too...
I tried walking in the pool, and it still hurt my knees, so I have been doing sit and be fit. Its meant for older people, but it gets me moving and burning something, as well as getting in the habit of making time for working out... I tape it (DVR) off of my local public tv station...
Good luck!
