Hi All-

My name is Maria and I am beginning this process.  I am gathering all the info for my insurance, meeting with a surgeon, etc.  I have my surgeon selected, I am just doing all of the footwork and testing to make it happen before the stuff gets sent to Aetna.

I am anxious, excited, etc.  I have explored surgery twice before, and this is the first time I really fully committed to doing whatever it takes to get it done in whatever time is needed, but its tough...  I just have to put one foot in from of the other.

BTW, I am 37 years old, married with a 13 yo stepdaughter.  I am approx 350 with a BMI of 60.

Good to "Meet" You all!

Welcome! I have just gotten back to this site after a few years of being away. You are gonna learn a lot here and make some good friends! Congratulations on your choice to change your life! Have a happy-safe journey!

Ooops-wanted to edit to let you know my BMI before surgery was 80+ it is now 40 and I'm looking into having a revision done. I was told a lot of us that have a high BMI need a revision at some point. I'm not saying you will-but just letting you know of my experience.

Nice to meet you, Maria.  I'm Mary.  I am 58 years old, married to my sweetheart for 10+ years, started with a BMI of 63, now is at about 51.  I'm excited for you - the journey is incredible.  I had mine the end of Sept.  and thus far am down 75 pounds.   I'm starting to move easier.  I did it for my health - at my age, that's the most important!

Welcome Maria....

I am sure you will feel right at home here.. there are some really great people on here and you will have a lot of friends here for support..

I am 50 years old and I had a BMI of 63 when I was at the stage you are.. I lost 67lbs before surgery and got my BMI to just under 50 for the surgery.. That took me 10 months.. it was hard work but I am proud of it.. I had surgery on the 23rd of November and I have lost another 20lbs since then.. only 13 lbs to go to reach 100lbs lost.. my loss is slow due to the weight I lost before surgery.. I am not the typical one for the amounts you will loose.. you will find we all loose at different rates.. I am happy with 20lbs at 10weeks.. that is 2lbs a week.. as long as it is coming off that is ok with me.. most prople loose a lot faster than that but its ok..

I am happy you found this board and I know you will find  that we can understand what it is like to have a BMI over 50.. some of the other light weight boards never experience the difficulties we have and just cant relate..

Good to have you on board...
Huggs....

Hi and Welcome :-)

I am pretty new here too. I just had my surgery not quite 3 weeks ago and the process sure does feel long and arduous . . . but it will be worth it :)

Good luck!

Welcome, Maria. I'm Ronda. I had a lap band in Dec. so I'm not much help with RNY issues, but I like "hanging out" with these guys because my starting BMI was 59 and we all understand the pain/frustration of being that heavy. It makes the victories especially sweet!!

Good luck and we're happy to have some new voices here.

Hello Maria.. and welcome!   I am 37 as well.. close to the same weight.. my son is 10 years younger.. he will be 3 this summer.  My name is Brenda.   I was supposed to have rny... went through all the jumps and hoops.. 6 month supervised diet.. fought with insurance etc.. as soon as my insurance ok'd it... it wasnt until then I realized how much it was going to cost.. and they wanted it upfront.  25 K!  It is such a struggle doing it on my own.
I look forward to following your  journey.. good luck and God Bless!    You picked a good place to start... so many loving, caring and supportive people here!
