Hi guys! I'm a little late is this topic but finally have a surgery date
7/31/13 😊. My surgeon suggests the GS but is letting me pick. I have been on this road for 8 years and this is what I have learned. Not that I'm correct or have the right info so please🙏 let me know what y'all think.
The RNY is the Gold Standard in Bariatric Surgeries. That have been doing it the longest because they originally used it for cancer patients. Out of all the Bariatric surgerys it leaves the smallest stomach so you feel full quicker and can intake less food. The dumping is good for those who think they can eat like they use to- quick reminder NOT to intake the high sugar fat foods. Although I'm nervous about hairloss because of vitamin Deficiencies. I am comfortable with taking supplements.
Please give me any and all info you have. Again I want RNY but others suggest I get GS.

Glo - you may want to start a separate thread if you want input.  Your post is lost in the middle of an old thread!

I'm not trying to talk you out or into anything, but - it's the partial gastrectomy (sleeve) that's been done for decades as a treatment cancer and ulcers, not the RNY.  The sleeved stomach is also the first part of the duodenal switch, which combines the sleeve with intestinal re-routing.  The sleeve has been a stand-alone weight loss procedure for around 10 years.

Post-op stomach size - my guess is that they're about the same.  Very small!

Dumping only occurs in about 1/3 of RNYers, so don't count on that you keep you honest.

Best of luck, whatever you choose.

VSG on 01/25/12

I went under for the RNY surgery but woke up with Plan B which was the VSG because they discovered that I had a complete non-rotation of my intestines that made the RNY surgery very risky for me.  I have lost ALL of my excess weight with the VSG and truly believe that it was a huge blessing in disguise!  Someone was looking out for me that day!

SURGERY at Toronto Western Hospital - VSG JANUARY 25th, 2012!!

Do you mind sharing your reasons for why you don't want DS?  I won't try to change your mind since you're quite clear that you don't want it, but I am curious.
